St. John’s guard Daniss Jenkins is positioned at over or under 15.5 points on the PrizePicks app, which matches his player prop betting total at a variety of sportsbooks below. Unsurprisingly, it’s a tick above his season-scoring average of 14.2 points per game.
The 6-foot-4 Iona transfer has eclipsed this total in 9 of the Johnnies’ 14 Big East matchups. Dating back to Jan. 10, Jenkins tallied a 16-point, 8-assist performance against these Friars in a one-possession victory.
Not only will the Friars have revenge on their minds, but they also rank in the 95th percentile in fast-break points allowed per contest (via CBB Analytics). Couple that with Providence wing Devin Carter, one of the premier defenders in college basketball, likely being tasked with shadowing Jenkins on a bevy of possessions.
Thus, Jenkins’ scoring production is potentially capped in this matchup. However, I’d expect Rick Pitino to emphasize the importance of ball pressure at the other end — given the Friars’ susceptibility to turnovers. The Red Storm’s matchup zone could also be problematic for Providence’s offense, showcasing the third-worst perimeter clip (32.1%) in league play.
With that line of thought, Jenkins’ ability to accrue takeaways could lead to his fair share of transition opportunities. He ranks in the 89th percentile of steals per game while shouldering much more of the scoring burden in recent matchups.

Elsewhere, St. John’s center Joel Soriano (over or under 13.5 points) makes for an intriguing bounce-back selection. Soriano, the Johnnies’ leading scorer, only logged two points in Saturday’s loss at Marquette. He was plagued by foul trouble throughout, to boot.
Nevertheless, Providence is a top-100 defensive-rebounding team. That could induce fewer second-chance looks for Soriano. Overall, the Red Storm tally the most potential quick points off second-chance offensive rebounds per 100 trips up-court versus the average opponent (via Haslametrics). That played a role in the logic behind betting on St. John’s Final Four odds.

Per my college basketball power rankings, are separated by almost two points. According to my raw numbers, the spread above is slightly inflated after baking in a home-court edge at Amica Mutual Pavilion.
Conversely, Haslametrics projects a score of 71.4-70.6, favoring the Friars. Erik Haslam runs this college hoops site and will return to the Outside Shots podcast once conference tournaments tip off.
