Prediction Markets News Today 8/10: ‘The Odyssey’ Journeys On, Vance Pulls Ahead
Christopher Nolan’s Midas Touch shows no sign of diminishing as ‘The Odyssey’ racks up box office receipts and leads the way for Best Picture Winner on the prediction markets.
Traders on the prediction markets have had their say, but let’s look a little closer at some of the trending trades for August 10.
Trending Prediction Markets for August 10
Here are some of the trending prediction markets running today on Polymarket.
‘The Odyssey’ Clear Favorite for Best Picture 2027
Christopher Nolan’s Homeric epic is killing it at the U.S. box office with over $1.1 billion raised globally. We’re in Nolan territory, of course, whose films rarely tank at the box office.
Good box office receipts, great reviews, and an overall epic buzz are always big indicators of how Academy Awards prediction markets will go. Plus, a Nolan film finally bagged the Best Picture Oscar with ‘Oppenheimer’ in 2024.
‘The Odyssey’ represents value at 45ȼ. The question is: do you buy ‘Yes’ now, or wait until the summer buzz calms down?
Here’s how the market is feeding off the Odyssey buzz now at Polymarket:
- ‘The Odyssey’: ‘Yes’ 49ȼ; ‘No’ 53ȼ
- ‘Dune: Part Three’: ‘Yes’ 14ȼ; ‘No’ 87ȼ
- ‘Wild Horse Nine’: ‘Yes’ 10ȼ; ‘No’ 91ȼ
- ‘Digger’: ‘Yes’ 7ȼ; ‘No’ 94ȼ
J.D. Vance Leads Race for 2028 Republican Nominee
Following Donald Trump’s lukewarm support for any specific Republican nominee a while back, traders were left scratching their heads as to who to back.
Marco Rubio was seemingly Trump’s favorite, but J.D. Vance is back on the march. In June, there wasn’t much between the frontrunners, but the VP is now a clear favorite at 44%. That might represent a near coinflip, but there’s space to trade out of your position if you hold long enough.
Here’s how the market is reacting now:
- D. Vance: ‘Yes’ 44ȼ; ‘No’ 56ȼ
- Marco Rubio: ‘Yes’ 23ȼ; ‘No’ 76ȼ
- Ron DeSantis: ‘Yes’ 3.1ȼ; ‘No’ 97ȼ
- Tucker Carlson: ‘Yes’ 2.1ȼ; ‘No’ 97ȼ
- Donald Trump: ‘Yes’ 2ȼ; ‘No’ 98ȼ
Will the US Invade Iran Before 2027?
A staggering $57 million has been traded on Polymarket so far in this prediction market. Even more bewildering is that traders were buying shares for 67ȼ just a few months ago.
Sense has prevailed, however, and the ‘Yes’ trade has settled at around 17ȼ (17% implied probability).
Let’s look beyond the angry Trump tweets and look at the reality.
The ongoing US-Iran conflict is tremendously unpopular, and the POTUS seems to have met his match in Iran – the ultimate poker players. They know full well Trump won’t risk American lives – or his legacy – on a ground campaign.
Only a backdown or a return to the status quo (if it exists) are the exit ramps here. Polymarket traders seem to agree. Check back tomorrow for more top prediction markets news for the day.
