Prediction Markets News Today: NL Cy Young, WNBA MVP Favorites Pull Away

As the summer calendar continues to roll through August, one of the most interesting aspects of the sports world is award races. Both the WNBA and MLB are nearing the end of their respective regular seasons, and, as such, much of today's prediction market news centers on who could win the various awards in each league.

Today's prediction market news centers around two specifically: the National League Cy Young Award and the WNBA MVP. Both awards have very clear favorites, but neither race is officially over.

Is Jacob Misiorowski a Lock for Cy Young?

Jacob Misiorowski has emerged as one of baseball's biggest stars this season, and Polymarket now gives the Milwaukee Brewers pitcher an 81% probability of winning the National League Cy Young Award.

That's a huge gap over anybody else in the field. In fact, nobody else even has a double-digit probability to win the award. Right behind Misiorowski in the market are Logan Henderson at 9%, Chris Sale at 8%, Cristopher Sánchez at 7% and Max Meyer at 5%.

Given where we are in the season, this one might be close to over.

Even if Misiorowski were to get hurt or have a bad stretch to close out the regular season, what he's already done this year has been absolutely dominant. We've certainly seen stranger things happen, and there have been award races that appeared to be over at this point in the season before completely flipping down the stretch.

But as of right now, Misiorowski might be as close to a lock as there is in baseball. And at an 81% probability rather than something closer to 100%, there could still be some upside in simply riding with the overwhelming favorite.

For anyone following prediction markets news, it creates a decision between taking the runaway favorite or predicting chaos over the final stretch of the season.

Olivia Miles Makes WNBA MVP Race More Interesting

The WNBA MVP market is just as lopsided as the National League Cy Young race.

A'ja Wilson currently carries an 86% probability on Polymarket of winning the MVP award. And that's nothing new. She's a multi-time MVP winner, clearly one of the best players in the league and once again dominating the sport.

But interestingly enough, one player who could make things interesting down the stretch is Minnesota Lynx rookie Olivia Miles.

Miles has been phenomenal this season, breaking out as a superstar in year one despite being the No. 2 overall pick in the recent draft. She's been especially important with Minnesota star Napheesa Collier missing significant time, helping keep the Lynx among the WNBA's top teams.

It would be a wild storyline to see a rookie ultimately win MVP, but Polymarket currently gives Miles a 17% probability, ahead of Caitlin Clark at 9% and Paige Bueckers at 5%.

Similar to the Cy Young race, this one appears to be trending toward an overwhelming favorite taking home the award. At this juncture, the two options are essentially riding with Wilson, who appears to be running away with MVP, or predicting the uncommon and taking a chance on Miles making history as a rookie.

That's ultimately what makes both award races fascinating. We're at the point in the season where the favorites are beginning to run away with these awards, but unexpected things can still happen.
