Prediction Markets News Today 7/9: Emmys, World Cup Halftime
We're back and looking at the best prediction markets news today on Kalshi! In this series, we won't necessarily stick to just sports. We'll look at all the markets trending for trades on Kalshi and put a little context behind each one. It was a busy 24 hours' worth of news with the 2026 Emmy nominations dropping, so let's dive into the action.
Prediction Markets News Today for July 9
One of the biggest headlines Wednesday was the 2026 Emmy nominations. HBO Max's medical drama The Pitt was the pace car of the entire field, making drama-nominating history and leading all programs with 25 nominations, which is a ludicrous haul to think about. Kalshi has a market called "Emmy Winner: Outstanding Drama Series," and The Pitt is the clear frontrunner, trading at 74 cents on "Yes."
There's a big gap to the next-highest chance on Kalshi, which is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms at 16 cents on "Yes." The Pitt has cemented itself as the frontrunner, so the rest of the field is playing catch-up in this one.
Kalshi Entertainment: Emmy Winner — Outstanding Comedy Series
Right behind The Pitt on the nominations leaderboard was the comedy Hacks. Of course, Kalshi has a market called "Emmy Winner: Outstanding Comedy Series." Hacks, an HBO Max show, hauled in 24 nominations. It marked a single-year comedy nomination record, topping the 23 previously set by The Bear and The Studio.
In that market, Hacks is trading at 53 cents on "Yes," while breakout dark horse Widow's Bay is right there at 45 cents on "Yes." Those two are by far the dominant plays in this market right now on Kalshi. The 2026 Emmys take place Monday, September 14, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC (also streaming on Peacock).
Kalshi World Cup: Who Performs at the Halftime Show?
We'll talk World Cup now, since it's obviously booming across the planet. This is a fun one from an entertainment angle: "Who will perform at the World Cup final halftime show?" Here's where it gets interesting, because the lineup keeps growing. FIFA has already confirmed a stacked co-headlining group of Shakira, Madonna, and BTS. Additionally, Justin Bieber was added to that group yesterday.
The menu also includes Burna Boy, conductor Gustavo Dudamel, and the PS22 Chorus featuring Coldplay, with Coldplay's Chris Martin curating the 11-minute show.
So why is this still tradeable? Because plenty of the big names in the market haven't been officially announced yet. Sabrina Carpenter is currently the highest trader at 36 cents on "Yes," while Bad Bunny is catching a bit of steam at 12 cents, and The Weeknd checks in behind those two at 7 cents. None of those three have been confirmed by FIFA yet. This market is really asking: who else joins before kickoff?
There are plenty of stipulations here regarding whether a performer is officially announced, whether they appear on stage, and more. Make sure to check the fine print when you're trading these unique, obscure event contracts.
With names still dropping this close to the event, don't be shocked if more news breaks before the last match. The World Cup final is set for Sunday, July 19.
That's a wrap on today's top prediction markets. Good luck, and trade contracts responsibly!
