The midterms are just weeks away but the trading volume on platforms like Kalshi is growing.

While much of the event contract trades are on outright winners in key states, there’s a booming market in margins, too. That is, the “margin” of victory for one opponent over another.

Traders on prediction exchanges like Kalshi are savvier than ever. By using analytics instead of simple close-your-eyes-and-hope betting, they can assess not only who will win, but by how much.

With that knowledge, who appeals on the midterms margins markets right now?

2026 Midterms Margin Prediction Markets: Three Key Plays

Unlike online sportsbooks, prediction markets can offer a range of political betting on every conceivable outcome.

OK, maybe not every outcome, but certainly the biggest results from the upcoming midterm elections. You can back favorites for the Senate and House of Representatives or target key states.

There are, of course, plenty of ‘Balance of Power’ markets if you don’t want to home in on a key state battle.

The biggest markets at Kalshi and Polymarket are on a handful of states, namely Texas, Michigan, and South Carolina. And over 50% of markets are on the margin of victory – not who will win.

Texas Senate Margin of Victory: James Talarico 2+ pts @ $0.60

The Texas Senate margin market is one of the biggest in the midterms, with over $1.1 million in trades at time of writing.

The state has swung from being a Republican win to a Democrat victory. Kalshi traders say Democrat James Talarico has a 19% chance of winning by 5+ points. The average trade is a Democrat win by 2.0 points.

Talarico holds a slight lead following three new polls, so the safe play here is 60% on him to win by 2+ points. However, his lead has narrowed, and you must go back to 1994 when a Democrat won in Texas.

With a 44% share (versus 48%) in the polls, incumbent Ken Paxton offers value if you think the Republicans will hold. The safe value play is $0.36 to win by 1+ points.

Our pick: Talarico to hold on in Texas by 2+ – Kalshi, $0.60

Michigan Senate Margin of Victory: Abdul El-Sayed 3+ pts @ $0.42

The Michigan Senate winner market is nearing $10 million in trades, with Democrat Abdul El-Sayed the 68% favorite to beat Mike Rogers.

On the rise is the market on El-Sayed to win by 3+ points, trading at $0.42 – up 5 points since yesterday. That marks a good value play if you don’t want the safer $0.63 on 1+ points.

Infamously, Al-Sayed spoke by himself last month after Rogers refused to show for a FOX 2 debate. Rogers doesn’t like “big stages” and referred to El-Sayed as a “pugnacious millennial”.

But Michigan has been blue for 32 years. Don’t bet on the Republicans flipping this one.

Our pick: El-Sayed to win by 3 – Kalshi, $0.42

South Carolina Margin Market: Darline Graham by 1+ @ $0.84

Over $3 million has been traded on Kalshi on who will win South Carolina: Republican senator Darline Graham or Dem. Challenger Annie Andrews.

The latest polling by FiftyPlusOne puts Graham on around 45% vs. 43% for Andrews.

Kalshi traders see things differently and give the Republican senator an 85% chance of winning.

So, who’s right, and what’s the play?

If this race is as tight as the polls suggest, $0.84 on Graham to win by 1+ point is the sensible move.

However, she is Donald Trump’s pick to succeed her late brother, Lindsay Graham, who died in July.

So far, Darline has been free from gaffes (mostly) but her relative inexperience could offer value on an Andrews win. No wonder the traders disagree so wildly from the pollsters. This one is too close to call.

Our pick: Graham by a point – Kalshi, $0.84

The midterms build-up continues, and we’ll be back over the next few weeks with more prediction analysis.
