Katie Zacharia Prediction Markets: Traders Back an Early Press Secretary Exit

Katie Zacharia has only been in the post of U.S. press secretary for a few days. However, an underwhelming first press conference at the White House has ignited the Kalshi market on when she will leave her post.
“I am so honored to work for President Trump and the American people,” Zacharia started by saying in her first White House briefing. She then took questions from – count ‘em – three journalists before leaving.
That was enough to send the prediction market traders into a frenzy as they scrambled to buy contracts on the time of her departure.
Katie Zacharia Out Prediction Market: Frontrunners
Whatever your political leanings, the general consensus is that Karoline Leavitt knew her role. And for much of the time, that role involved towing the Republican party line. Following her as U.S. press secretary would have been difficult for anyone.
But Katie Zacharia came into the job an unknown quantity. Certainly, she barely registered on the Kalshi board, trading for the entire market at <$0.01.
Some savvy traders took advantage, making a profit by backing the right woman. It was suspicious enough for Kalshi to launch an investigation into the trades.
The new Kalshi market is on the timing of Zacharia’s departure from the White House. Was her first press conference poor enough to trigger an early exit, or will she last the course until the next election?
‘Out Before Jul 1, 2027’: ‘No’ @ $0.37
The clear front runner in the Katie Zacharia prediction market is for her to be gone by next July. Priced at $0.65 (a 66% implied probability), traders are giving Zacharia some time to bed in but still think she will be gone.
Zacharia’s price went up 26 points following that press conference which left journalists and viewers perplexed.
And things aren’t going to get easier. Zacharia comes in with the Iran war still no closer to a resolution, and midterms looming. How will she cope when, or if, the Republicans have a terrible fall?
The ‘No’ play makes sense: Trump won’t admit to making a mistake and may not fire a female employee, bad midterms or not. You can always flip your event contracts if the situation changes.
Our pick: The ‘No’ buy is the value play – Kalshi, $0.65
‘Out Before Jan 1, 2027’: ‘Yes’ @ $0.40
Event contracts in a Jan 1 departure have fallen 60 points this week as traders play the long game.
That opens up some value on the market and also factors in poor midterms that Zacharia will somehow have to explain to the media.
It is possible that bad midterm elections will see the White House close ranks and restrict press briefings going forward. That all boils down to what mood Donald Trump is in that day, or week.
More disastrous press briefings, and that $0.40 price for a post-Christmas job hunt could be on for Zacharia.
Our pick: January 2027 the only ‘Yes’ play in town – Kalshi, $0.40
