The 2026 midterms are getting closer, and the Democrats’ chances of a clean sweep for the House and Senate are increasing.

A new poll says only 26% of adults in the U.S. think Donald Trump is doing a good job. The cost-of-living crisis and the never-ending war in Iran mean POTUS has his work cut out for him to turn things around by November.

Certainly, the prediction markets have spoken. Kalshi traders think that it’s a dead cert for a Democrat clean sweep of both houses. Can Trump’s offer of $5,000 to anyone who votes for him change his fortunes?

Only weeks remain until the decisive midterms that could shape the end of Donald Trump’s tenure as president.

We covered some of the key battleground states recently, but how are things shaping up across the country? Things are becoming clearer on Kalshi as traders track the latest polls. They don’t look good for Trump, and that’s reflected in the Democrats’ increasing odds of a big win.

Democrats Sweep: ‘Yes’ @ $0.62

A D-House, D-Senate sweep was a 42% probability with Kalshi traders just a month ago. However, those odds have now risen to 62% as the Republicans’ chances have slumped to 7.9%.

Even the chances of the Republicans winning either the House or the Senate have dropped. R-House/D-Senate is 1.3%, with a D-House/R-Senate outcome priced at $0.29 per event contract.

A new Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll says just 17 percent of American adults think POTUS is sorting the cost-of-living crisis.

Naturally, Democrat voters mark the president down across the board. However, even Republicans give low approval ratings (sub-40%) on climate change, immigration, and trade.

The U.S.-Iran war has hit Republican chances hard. It has not only had a knock-on effect on fuel prices and interest rates, but it’s also angered core GOP voters. Trump promised not to get Americans involved overseas, and that’s exactly what he’s done.

Incumbent parties traditionally do badly in the midterms. However, this is shaping up to be a bad one.

Our pick: Clean sweep is on – Kalshi, $0.62

D-House, R-Senate: ‘Yes’ @ $0.29

The next best trade in the midterms prediction market is the Republicans at least holding the Senate.

They currently hold the Senate, 53 seats to 47. Two independents caucus with the Democrats.

Since the last election, seven seats in the Senate have flipped to the Dems. The Democrats will need to win four seats to get that all-important control. Don’t forget that JD Vance also holds a tie-breaking vote, if one is required.

It’s not a foregone conclusion that the Democrats get over the line. Most of the key battleground states are coinflips, including Michigan. If a D-House result is a given, the R-Senate buy is the value play.

Our pick: Republicans keep the Senate – Kalshi, $0.29

We’ll be revisiting the midterms prediction market as the election nears. What twists and turns will happen before the midterms, and can Donald Trump weave some magic to change the Republicans’ fortunes?
