2026 Ballon d’Or Prediction Markets: Harry Kane Justifies Favorite Tag with Win

Harry Kane won the 2026 Ballon d’Or last night, securing not only soccer’s top individual honor but also wins for anyone buying ‘Yes’ shares in the Englishman.
Kane shares were trading for $0.71 before the award was given out yesterday. Fittingly, the Londoner received his Ballon d’Or in his hometown, becoming the fifth English player to take the award.
PSG star Kylian Mbappé was a closer runner for much of the race on Kalshi. There was even time for Spanish youngster Lamine Yamal to provide traders with some value play.
Ultimately, however, it was Kane’s to lose after a stellar season for Bayern Munich and England.
2026 Ballon d’Or Prediction Market: How it Was Won
The prediction markets went into overdrive for this year’s Ballon d’Or, one of the most open in years.
Over $53 million was traded on Kalshi for this year’s men’s award. On the awards night itself, over $8 million in shares were bought and sold as traders sold their position on Kane or tried to grab late value in Mbappe.
Ballon d’Or: Final Five
- #1 Harry Kane (England)
- #2 Kylian Mbappé (France)
- #3 Lamine Yamal (Spain)
- #4 Rodri (Spain)
- #5 Lionel Messi (Argentina)
None of the frontrunners had an incredible all-round season. Where one player won a UEFA Champions League, it came at the expense of a disappointing World Cup. Where another player won the World Cup, it came with the pain of losing their domestic league.
And in the case of Harry Kane, the Ballon d’Or award came in a season crammed with goals – a record-breaking number – but no major European or world trophies.
Harry Kane: Resolved ‘Yes’ @ $0.37
Let’s take Harry Kane’s ‘Yes’ event contract price at the start of October. The Bayern striker was in first place in this market all month as Mbappé’s price dropped. It continued its upward trajectory from there.
In reality, Kane had been vying for favoritism with the Frenchman since the spring. That was until the World Cup when Kane’s goals propelled England the third place. That England beat France in the third-place playoff was even sweeter for the number nine.
And on the night itself, an embarrassing “leak” saying Kane had won emerged on the Ballon d’Or’s website hours before the ceremony. Organizers scrambled to explain away the leak, but traders had seen enough.
Kane’s price suddenly jumped from $0.70 at the start of the ceremony, with millions in trades added. Mbappé’s price slumped from a high of $0.18 as traders failed to buy into the French buzz.
Our pick: Back Kane for a one-two and win in 2027 – Kalshi
Kylian Mbappé: Resolved ‘No’ @ $0.63
The French star only really troubled the favorite spot in the Ballon d’Or market once or twice. He was priced as high as $0.29 in April before the World Cup.
However, a stunning World Cup for Kane – despite Mbappé winning the Golden Boot – saw his price rise and the French player’s fall.
In fairness to Mbappé, a season without injury would have helped him give Kane a tougher run-in. However, an injury-plagued year for Real Madrid meant Mbappé never had time to make up ground.
Who Wins Next Year’s Ballon d’Or?
The champagne and confetti are still being cleared from last night’s ceremony, but traders are already looking ahead to next year’s awards.
Polymarket has opened its Ballon d’Or Winner 2027 market, with Lamine Yamal the early favorite to win. He will be a year older and is in a Barcelona team that is favorite to win La Liga and the Champions League.
Yamal has broken through the Young Player awards: now it’s time for him to grab that first men’s trophy.
- Lamine Yamal $0.28
- Kylian Mbappe $0.18
- Michael Olise $0.11
- Jude Bellingham $0.11
