White House Meeting With Prediction Markets Set for Wednesday

President Donald Trump is expected to attend a White House meeting on Wednesday with prediction markets and cryptocurrency executives, ahead of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s new Innovation Advisory Committee forming.
Politico initially reported the Wednesday meeting, but did not say whether Trump might attend. Other sources have now said the president is expected to attend the White House meeting, along with CFTC chair Michael Selig and Securities and Exchange Commission chair Paul Atkins.
The meeting is expected to include discussions on the Clarity Act, which currently sits in the Senate. This act would transfer a fair amount of the responsibilities regarding cryptocurrency to the CFTC from the SEC. Supporters have suggested this would help modernize questions regarding newer platforms, while opponents have said this might mean less oversight.
The CFTC is considered to have fewer resources than the more established SEC. This could lead to a decline in enforcement if the budget isn’t increased.
Why Is There a White House Meeting on Wednesday?
On the surface, the timing would appear suspect. The Senate is out of session until September, meaning there will be several weeks until the senators discuss the Clarity Act again. That doesn’t allow much time for Trump to pressure any senators, as the elections are just six weeks after the Senate returns to Washington.
However, the Senate calendar doesn’t allow much time to discuss the act anyway. The Senate returns on Sept. 14, and it will recess again on Oct. 2. After that point, there will be no new legislation discussed until after the midterm elections.
So that makes a White House meeting before the senators return a necessity, as the act is operating on a compressed timeline. Although it has bipartisan support, it might not be able to pass when the makeup of Congress changes in Jan. 2027.
How Likely Is the Act to Pass?
According to Polymarket, it’s going to be a tough ask. The Clarity Act’s passage traded at 82% likelihood back in February, when there was plenty of time for debate and discussion. But the bill wasn’t introduced until late May, and it didn’t pass the House until July 17.
Once summer recesses begin, it becomes much harder to pass legislation, especially in an election year. With Congress sharply divided, a missed vote can make it very difficult to get anything passed.
That’s why Polymarket has lowered the odds of passage in 2026 to just 19%. That’s slightly up from last week, which saw a low of 13%. That suggests the White House meeting is likely to include strategies to try to get the Clarity Act to Trump’s desk.
How Do Prediction Markets Come Into Play?
The Clarity Act would allow for expanded resources and oversight from the CFTC, at least on paper. That’s seen as crucial for prediction markets, who have consistently said the CFTC should govern their trades.
The meeting could also include discussions on litigation strategies. Prediction markets have faced several setbacks in court recently, and if those continue, the question might end up before the Supreme Court in the near future.
