First Mission’s removal from the second leg of the Triple Crown leaves the race with only seven horses — its smallest field since 1986. Additionally, it’s the first time since Criterion in 1948 that a single Kentucky Derby participant will compete in the Preakness. As of this publish, Derby winner Mage is still on track to take part while remaining the favorite (4-5).

Cox’s dark bay colt will be evaluated further by Dr. Larry Bramlage at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky. His morning line odds were set at 5-2 — good for the second-shortest price tag among Preakness Stakes odds.

As a result, FanDuel Racing has adjusted each of the figures on the board. Specifically, Blazing Sevens has seen quite a bit of flux since his odds were initially released.

After he was priced at 15-1 within the first release of the morning-line odds on Monday, he was quickly bet down to 6-1. FanDuel Racing traders have now shifted Blazing Sevens down to 5-1 with First Mission out of the running. He boasts the third-shortest odds among the seven horses, as of this writing.

Keep in mind, the Chad Brown-trained colt was slated to race at Churchill Downs before getting scratched two weeks ahead of the Derby. He was tied for 17th with 46 points after a third-place finish in the Grade 1 Blue Grass at Keeneland on April 8.
