76ers Odds Paul George

Paul George has agreed to a four-year, $212 million deal to join Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers. The nine-time All-Star has impacted Philly’s odds, with the 76ers seeing significant line movement overnight in NBA Finals odds. George returning to the Eastern Conference and joining the 76ers may make Philadelphia an attractive team to win the Eastern Conference as well for NBA betting fans.

Details On Paul George Free Agency Signing with 76ers

George declined his $48.8 million player option with the Los Angeles Clippers, opting to become a free agent. Rumors surrounding George’s exit dominated the NBA news cycle, with teams like the Dallas Mavericks, Orlando Magic, as well as the 76ers attached to George. Ultimately, George joined the 76ers only hours after NBA free agency began.

With the signing, Philly now sees their shortest preseason odds to win the NBA Finals and the Eastern Conference since the 2019-2020 preseason. Philly had +775 odds to win the NBA Finals and +235 odds to win the Eastern Conference during that preseason. Philadelphia has not made the conference finals since 2001.

76ers Odds Movement Post Paul George Signing

According to BetMGM, the 76ers have seen their odds shorten from +1400 to +800 to win the NBA Championship, as well as +650 to +400 to win the Eastern Conference. Philadelphia’s line movement is the biggest shift since free agency began.

George is coming off of a season where he put up 22.6 PPG. The star forward shot 47.1% from the field and 41.3% from behind the arc. Additionally, George is replacing Tobias Harris and the much-maligned Sixer’s 17.2 PPG and 35.3% three-point shooting. George is also a major improvement on defense over Harris for Philly.

With Georges’s efficiency and overall play, the odds are not that surprising, considering he is a true upgrade for Philly.

Potential Issues With Roster Depth

The 76ers, however, still have issues they need to address. Joel Embiid’s health continues to derail the team’s championship hopes year in and year out. Paul George also has a history of injuries sidelining him as well. During his stint with the Los Angeles Clippers, Geroge was either out due to injury or struggling in the playoffs due to injury.

Additionally, the 76ers also signed point guard Tyrese Maxey to a $204 million extension. The Big Three of Embiid, George, and Maxey are taking $629 million of the 76ers salary over the next four seasons. Should injury take these stars out for significant time, there isn’t much room for Philly to make other moves.

If it clicks, and Philly is able to stay healthy, they can be a major threat in the East. However, based on the track record of the stars late in seasons, caution is advised.
