Patriots’ Kayshon Boutte Arrested For Illegal Sports Betting At LSU
As part of an ongoing investigation for illegal sports gambling, New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte was arrested by the Louisiana State Police on Thursday. The Boutte sports betting allegations date back to his LSU career.
Boutte was accused of placing 8,900 bets from April 6, 2022 to May 7, 2023. At least 17 of them were reportedly placed on college football odds. A minimum of six of them were on LSU football matchups. Gambling under the age of 21 is illegal for Louisiana sports betting.
“In July 2023, LSU was made aware of allegations regarding a former student-athlete’s improper conduct related to sports gambling while enrolled at the University,” LSU said Thursday in a statement. “Since then, we have fully cooperated with all relevant authorities involved in the investigation and will continue to do so. We have no evidence that any other student-athletes participated in these prohibited activities, and we are grateful for measures that detect and discourage sports gambling-related misconduct.”
Per the report on WAFB, the bets and net payouts melded for more than “several hundred thousand dollars.” However, the now-21-year-old Boutte wasn’t making wagers against himself or his team.
The Boutte sports betting case heightened when he turned himself in on charges of computer fraud and a misdemeanor count of gaming — prohibited for those under 21 years old. He was placed in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison before posting a $6,000 bond, resulting in his immediate release.
As a freshman in December 2020, Boutte produced an SEC single-game record with 308 receiving yards versus Ole Miss. He tacked on nine touchdowns in his sophomore campaign but battled injuries as a junior. The Patriots nabbed him in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
In his rookie campaign, Boutte was active for five games, tallying two catches for 19 yards.
