Tournament Notes
As previously acknowledged, Colgate is a hefty -240 favorite to punch a ticket into the Big Dance. That’s good for a 68.75% implied probability. The Raiders have won the tournament in three of the previous four seasons, and they nearly upset Wisconsin in the NCAA tournament in 2022.
Matt Langel’s crew is paced by the do-it-all Tucker Richardson, who averages 14.1 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.9 boards per game. Richardson & Co. boast the top-ranked 3-point percentage (40.7%) across D-I, manufacturing an elite mid-major transition attack to boot. Nevertheless, the Raiders are also most vulnerable against opposing fast-break offenses, particularly at the rim.
On top of that, senior forward Ryan Moffatt (10.1 ppg) missed Colgate’s final two regular season games. His status for Thursday’s tip is unknown.
Anticipating a Colgate loss in the semifinals or championship game is difficult task, especially since no team in the top-half of the standings managed to upset the Raiders this season. That’s why their price tag is so steep. Couple that with Sean Yoder, Navy’s top perimeter defender, dealing with a shoulder injury, and it becomes even more challenging to foresee.
In regards to the tournament’s venue(s), each game will occur at the home arena of the higher seed. There’s a decent chunk of prep time between every contest, too, which favors the Raiders even more.
