It’s already Week 5 around the NFL, and the NFL Week 5 schedule is loaded with storylines that could shape the direction of the season.

We’ve seen enough football to start drawing conclusions about who these teams really are, but there’s still plenty of uncertainty as the league shifts week to week. Injuries are always a moving target, and the NFL Week 5 injury report once again features key names that will influence outcomes across the slate.

Thursday Night

49ers at Rams

Both teams enter TNF atop the NFC West, making this one of the best games of the week. San Francisco has been hammered by injuries — George Kittle, Brandon Aiyuk, and Brock Purdy have all missed time — but still sit 3–1. The Rams have been one of the most disciplined teams, riding Matthew Stafford’s resurgence. This could come down to which defense generates a turnover in a tight divisional battle.

Vikings vs Browns (London)

This game will take place in London, which provides an extra wrinkle to consider when finding value in this game. Minnesota has lost rookie QB J.J. McCarthy for a few weeks with a high-ankle sprain, which has forced Sam Darnold into action. That’s a tough blow, but the Vikings’ offensive line has been strong early. The Browns finally got Quinshon Judkins involved in the run game last week, and their defense has been spectacular.

Sunday Early Window

Texans at Ravens

Both teams badly need this one to avoid sliding deeper into the AFC standings, as a pair of projected contenders are facing disastrous starts to the season. The big storyline is Lamar Jackson’s hamstring injury, as his absence leaves Baltimore without its biggest offensive weapon. Houston has moved the ball but has struggled to finish drives, ranking near the bottom in red-zone efficiency. If the Texans can punch in touchdowns instead of field goals, they have a real shot to win on the road.

Dolphins at Panthers

The Dolphins have completely lost their offensive identity now that Tyreek Hill is out for the season, but they finally got a win on Monday night. Tua Tagovailoa has looked ordinary without his top weapon, and defenses are pressing Miami’s receivers, so the hope is that Darren Waller's debut performance last week is sustainable. Carolina hasn’t been much better, but the Panthers have shown flashes offensively this season. This feels like a matchup where whichever QB takes care of the ball wins.

Raiders at Colts

The Colts have quietly become one of the more consistent teams, leaning on Jonathan Taylor and a solid defense. Daniel Jones has seen a resurgence this season, but Indy has also benefited from opportunistic turnovers. The Raiders are 1–3 because Geno Smith has been turnover-prone, and they’ll face a disciplined Colts defense that punishes mistakes. Unless Smith plays clean, the Colts should control this one.

Giants at Saints

Two struggling teams meet, but the Giants’ loss of rookie WR Malik Nabers is massive. He was their only consistent offensive threat, and without him, the offense looks limited despite New York getting its first win last week after he went down. The Saints are winless and just lost starting guard Cesar Ruiz, further weakening protection for Spencer Rattler. Both teams are desperate, but this could end up being an ugly, low-scoring grind.

Cowboys at Jets

Dallas has been underwhelming and already sits with just one win through four weeks. The offensive line has been banged up, and CeeDee Lamb’s injury status has resulted in George Pickens stepping up as a true WR1. The Jets are one of the last winless teams in the league, still searching for any consistency with Justin Fields at the helm. Until New York finds an offensive rhythm, they’re a tough team to rely on.

Broncos at Eagles

Denver has been inconsistent, but at least showed some flashes in Week 4. Still, heading to Philly against the undefeated Eagles is a tall task. Philadelphia has been dominant in the trenches, per usual, and seemingly always finds ways to grind out a win. With the Broncos dealing with their own injury concerns, this feels like another spot for the Eagles to roll.

Sunday Late Window

Titans at Cardinals

Tennessee remains one of the league’s last winless teams, and the Titans' offense has been very underwhelming. Rookie QB Cam Ward hasn’t had much help, and the Titans have struggled to protect him. Arizona sits at 2–2 and has been more competitive than expected, even without RB James Conner. If the Cardinals can establish the run and find ways to get Marvin Harrison to break out, they should send Tennessee to 0–5.

Buccaneers at Seahawks

Both teams sit at 3-1, but have put together very different starts to the season stylistically. Seattle has an elite defense, which has really been the most impressive part of this season for them. Tampa Bay continues to deal with WR injuries, with Chris Godwin coming back right as Mike Evans gets hurt, but Emeka Egbuka has stepped up. Expect a physical game that could swing on one big play in the secondary.

Lions at Bengals

Detroit has looked like one of the NFC’s most balanced teams since a Week 1 loss to the Packers. The Bengals are in survival mode without Joe Burrow, and their offense has lacked explosiveness. Even so, Cincinnati is always dangerous at home, and Ja’Marr Chase remains a gamebreaker, even if these past two weeks have been brutal. Still, this matchup tilts heavily toward Detroit’s defensive front against a shaky Bengals line and a lackluster backup QB for Cincinnati.

Commanders at Chargers

The Chargers’ only loss came last week against the Giants in a surprise loss, but they’ve been one of the league’s most efficient offenses. Washington has been up and down, struggling to sustain drives, mostly due to QB Jaden Daniels’ inability to stay on the field. Unless the Commanders’ defense forces turnovers, Los Angeles could continue rolling depending on Daniels' situation.

Sunday Night Football

Patriots at Bills

The Patriots have battled to .500 but haven’t beaten a quality team yet. Buffalo, on the other hand, looks like the NFL’s best team through four weeks. Josh Allen is playing clean, efficient football, and the Bills’ defense has forced turnovers at a high rate. Unless New England plays a perfect game, Buffalo should stay undefeated.

Monday Night Football

Chiefs at Jaguars

Kansas City has looked uncharacteristically sluggish, sitting at 2–2 with Rashee Rice suspended and Xavier Worthy just returning from injury. Patrick Mahomes can only do so much without wide receiver depth, especially with how Travis Kelce looks at this point in his Hall of Fame career. Jacksonville has been hot, winning two straight and showing real balance on offense. If Trevor Lawrence protects the ball, the Jaguars could seriously keep up with Kansas City.
