Betting matchups for the 2024 NFL regular season
There is never a shortage of juicy storylines heading into an NFL season. Here is a look at some of the top angles to keep tabs on.
The Chiefs dynasty
Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have crafted an NFL dynasty. In the past six seasons, the Chiefs have three Super Bowl wins and have at least made the AFC Championship game each time.
The Chiefs (+600) are not the undisputed favorite to win the Super Bowl again, however. San Francisco (+550) is the betting favorite at most books.
Kansas City will open the NFL regular season on Thursday, September 5 against a yet to be determined opponent.
Super Bowl windows
The Bills, 49ers, Eagles and Bengals have been knocking on the door of a championship for several years now. Buffalo and Philadelphia saw a bunch of turnover this past off-season with many key veterans parting ways. Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts remain under center for their respective teams but there are questions with the rest of the roster for both squads.
The 49ers have now fallen to the Chiefs in two separate Super Bowls but most pundits would agree that they have the most talented roster in the NFL heading into 2024.
Cincinnati, meanwhile, saw a drop-off last season but much of it can be blamed on the injuries to QB Joe Burrow. Burrow played in just 10 games for Cincy due to calf and wrist injuries. A healthy Bengals squad, however, is expected to be one of the top teams in the AFC. The Bengals opened the off-season with +1500 odds to win the Lombardi Trophy.
Which NFL team will make the leap?
The Texans went from the basement of the AFC South to the division champion in just one season. So which NFL team is poised to go from the outhouse to the penthouse this season?
The Bears are a popular candidate to make the leap this season with No. 1 overall draft pick Caleb Williams in the fold. Chicago went 7-10 this past season and things are finally trending up in the Windy City. Updated NFL win totals projections have the Bears at 8.5 wins at most sportsbooks.
The Chargers are another team that will likely be a chic pick for a quick turnaround this season. Jim Harbaugh is at the helm and he has already shown the ability to change an NFL team’s culture overnight. Harbaugh took the 49ers from a 6-10 record to the NFC Championship game in his first season as San Francisco head coach 13 years ago.
