After Team USA and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler won the Olympic men’s golf gold medal, Le Golf National now hosts the women’s Olympic golf tournament this week. After also hosting the annual Open de France and 2018 Ryder Cup, we have a good sense of how the course will play with more focus on precision and elite distance off the tee not required. Olympic Women’s Golf odds feature American Nelly Korda as the favorite with Team USA teammate Lilia Vu the second choice.

Le Golf National Course Preview

My colleague John Haslbauer broke down the course in more detail in his Olympic men’s golf preview, but Le Golf National is a course with lots of water and penal rough. It showed at the 2018 Ryder Cup that it is unforgiving. It’s also a course where length is neutered in favor of accuracy. The ability to make big numbers is omnipresent on this course. From the first tee shot, there is trouble available on nearly every hole.

This is a normal stroke play event, meaning that unlike with some Olympic events, there are no crazy rules or changes to get our heads around. Form could be key, but as the men’s tournament of 2020 showed with Rory Sabbatini getting a medal, it’s not always hugely important. More important will be finding the right numbers.

Given her record-setting LPGA season, defending gold Medalist Nelly Korda will take up a lot of the oxygen this week. With the rest of the field, however, there are two targets I’ll be looking to target at their prices.

Potential bets For Women’s Olympic Golf Odds

Rose Zhang (USA)

Arguably the most prolific winner in women’s amateur golf history, Zhang burst onto the scene by winning her professional debut in 2023. That year, she managed three top 10s in majors, even earning herself an invite to The Match 9 exhibition on TNT. Since then, the hype machine has died down, partially due to missing cuts at the first two majors this year. However, a win in May and a T6 at the Canadian Open in her final start suggests Zhang is at least in decent form.

More to the point, Zhang is fundamentally a bet on the idea that talent matters more than hype. If the Olympics were last August, she’d be going off at 8/1. Now she’s double that price. Yes, she didn’t walk onto the LPGA Tour and win five events like it seemed like she might last year. But getting to profit off the fact that expectations were out of whack is fine, too.

Also, it’s worth repeating she has actually won an LPGA event this year. Ludvig Aberg teed off at a smaller price in the men’s tournament despite not having won a single PGA TOUR event since he turned pro at the same time as Zhang. It’s a pure value play and one that has win equity.

Kim is the other person getting my money this week, and for a simple reason. Le Golf National is an accuracy course where being in the right spots on your approaches will be key. She is fifth on the LPGA in Driving Accuracy, which will be vital this week.

At the 2018 Ryder Cup, Bryson DeChambeau went 0-3, and Dustin Johnson went 1-4 because their bomb-and-gouge styles didn’t play well for the course. In the men’s tournament, Wyndham Clark found either a penalty area or had to play out sideways from his first three tee shots.

Accuracy is at such a premium at Le Golf National that there’s value in just finding fairways. In Kim, we’re getting a player with three top 20s in Majors this season and someone who won an Aramco Team Series event this year. Betting on that accuracy to sustain seems like a reasonable bet.

USA Women’s GOLF: Chances To Medal

With three of the top five on the 2024 Olympic Women’s golf odds board – Korda, Lilia Vu, and Zhang – representing the United States, they are the clear favorites for gold. That said, the U.S. only has one medal in women’s golf since the sport was reintroduced to the Olympics in 2016.

Lydia Ko has managed to make the podium twice for New Zealand, meaning that she has more Olympic hardware than the entire United States. With the high-end American talent at this tournament, they really should be able to win at least one medal. If any sportsbook offers country-based “To Win A Medal Odds,” I’ll be happy to look at the USA to get at least one.

Best of luck betting Olympic women’s golf odds!
