2024 Olympic Men’s Golf Bets: Final Thoughts, Betting Card
The 2024 golf season continues, with the Olympic Men’s Golf competition next on tap at Le Golf National, beginning Thursday. Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and Rory McIlroy headline Olympic Men’s Golf bets this week, as John Haslbauer provides his favorite picks.
Taking a break from the usual PGA TOUR grind, the 2024 Olympic Men’s Golf competition is finally here, with Le Golf National taking center stage to host 60 of the best men’s golfers across the world. It’s a refreshing change of pace in today’s golf landscape to watch these players compete for national pride rather than bottomless sums of cash, so I’m excited to watch the action tee off this Thursday!
Le Golf National is a familiar host venue, as the annual site of the DP World Tour’s Open de France and the 2018 Ryder Cup venue. It will pose a fair test to the field as a challenging positional venue with water hazards in play throughout. Ultimately, the most precise ball-strikers should prevail as the field of 60 gets ready for their push to the podium.

HOW I BUILT MY Olympic men’s golf BETTING CARD
At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, I successfully landed on Xander Schauffele by taking a patient approach and waiting to fill out an outright card until better value emerged after the first round. I don’t have the same patience in 2024, but do see much more betting value throughout the board than we’ve grown accustomed to in limited fields. Of course, Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy, and Jon Rahm are all playing inspired golf at the moment, but a shorter venue in Le Golf National should level the playing field a bit for more accurate ball strikers to emerge in contention. Afterall, we’re one Olympics removed from seeing Rory Sabbatini and CT Pan on the podium, so I’m building out a card of slightly more exposure to combat the uncertainty that comes with a non-PGA TOUR event.
From a unit allocation standpoint, it’s back to business as usual for my weekly stake at the 2024 Olympic Men’s Golf competition.
- Outrights – 3.5U in to pay 25U each
- FRL – 0.5U in to pay out 10U+ each
- Full Tournament Matchups – 1U in to pay out 2U
- Props – 1.5U in to pay out 3U+ each
Olympic men’s golf BETS: OUTRIGHTS (3.5 UNITS)
Ludvig Aberg
My Bet: +1400
bet365 Enhanced Win Odds: +1450
Aberg would not be the first Swedish Olympic golf medalist, but he’s positioned well to follow the same game plan that landed Henrik Stenson a spot on the podium in 2016. Length is not a must at Le Golf National, but as we’ve learned in modern professional golf, it never hurts to have a little less club in hand for approach shots than your competitors. The second-year Swede has immediately cemented himself as one of the most precise ball strikers on TOUR, which is exactly the type of profile I’m looking for in a player to attack Le Golf National. He’s gained strokes both off-the-tee and on approach in each of his last 10 starts since THE PLAYERS, and has gained in terms of both Driving Distance and Driving Accuracy in eight events over that span.
He’s looked great in limited starts overseas too, winning the Omega European Masters and standing out in the 2023 Ryder Cup for Team Europe. With no shortage of in-form stars teeing it up in Paris, this is a great value on one of the premiere ball strikers in the game.

Tommy Fleetwood
My Bet: +2200
bet365 Enhanced Win Odds: +2000
Narrative street loves Tommy Fleetwood this week. While he continues to be the most overdue man for a win on the PGA TOUR, that stigma has not affected his performance when playing in Europe. Fleetwood is 7-2-0 in his Ryder Cup career playing at home in Europe, including a dominant 4-1-0 showing at Le Golf National in 2018. Prior to that, Fleetwood further demonstrated his fit for this course by winning the HNA Open de France in 2017. The course success makes sense at Le Golf National, as Fleetwood as remained one of the most consistently accurate ball-strikers in golf throughout this season.
If no Frenchmen are in the mix come Sunday, I expect the European crowd to rally by Fleetwood’s side, as he looked to carry on the momentum of 10 top-20 finishes in 2024.
Sepp Straka
My Bet: +5000
bet365 Enhanced Win Odds: +4500
Whenever accuracy on drives and approaches are at a premium, Sepp Straka should always be in consideration. As demonstration, he’s picked up his first two career PGA TOUR wins on sub-7,200 yard courses between the Honda Classic and John Deere Classic. Leading into this week, Straka ranks top-3 in terms of Driving Accuracy, SG: Approach, and SG: Putting. Those are the first three boxes I’m looking for a player to check at Le Golf National, so these odds truly jump out as one of my favorite values on the board this week. Straka was unburdened by the Olympic stage in his 2020 debut, jumping out to the first round lead in Tokyo en route to a T10 finish in his last appearance.
Matthieu Pavon
My Bet: +8000
bet365 Enhanced Win Odds: +8000
It feels a bit un-patriotic of me to construct an Olympics betting card without exposure to any American golfers. However from a pure fan’s perspective, it would be amazing to watch Matthieu Pavon cap off his Cinderella 2024 season by winning gold for the Olympics’ host nation. The nationalist narrative has sprouted legs recently too, as we’ve recently watched Robert MacIntyre, Bryson DeChambeau, and Nick Taylor win their nations’ Opens despite the heightened pressure that comes with it. Already posting a win at Torrey Pines and top-10 finishes at comparable positional venues like Waialae CC and Pebble Peach GL earlier this season, Pavon is fully capable of playing himself into the mix this week in Paris.
Olympic men’s golf BETS: FIRST-ROUND LEADER (0.5 UNITS)
Hideki Matsuyama
My Bet: +4500
Current Odds: +3500
Matsuyama flirted with a Bronze medal in his home Olympics competition in 2020, ultimately settling for a T4 finish after a drawn out playoff. His ball-striking remains world class leading into this week, and I believe there’s plenty of value on this number for Mastuyama to get off to another hot start in Paris.
Sepp Straka
My Bet: +4500
Current Odds: +3500
In lesser form, Straka was able to pace the field for the first round lead at the Tokyo Olympics. In 2024, he should enter with even more confidence. He’s maintained an elite baseline of hitting fairways and greens in regulation, which will create ample birdie opportunities at Le Golf National.
Wyndham Clark
My Bet: +7000
Current Odds: +4000
I understand the OWGR is a near-obsolete source of ranking golfers in the modern game, however I can’t ignore this price for a player who qualified for this event as a top-5 ranked golfer in the world. His game is more volatile than lost too, as he’s still looked solid recently with two top-25 finishes over his last three starts.
Emiliano Grillo
My Bet: +8000
Current Odds: +7000
A pure marksman with his driver and irons, Grillo has consistently demonstrated an affinity for positional venues, with his best career finishes coming on shorter venues like Colonial CC and Harbour Town GL. He looks to have regained form recently as well, finishing top-25 in his latest start at the 3M Open.
Olympic men’s golf BETS: PROPS (2.5 UNITS)
Full Tournament Matchup: Matthieu Pavon > Victor Perez
My Bet: -110
I couldn’t resist a stake in this France vs. France Civil War. Perez has been the more consistent of the two this year, however Pavon’s ceiling is undoubtedly higher. Pavon has elevated his game on the biggest stages this year, finishing top-15 in six Signature Events, including the U.S. Open and THE PLAYERS. Perez, while an established ball-striker, enters with more question marks surrounding the state of his game.
Top-20 Finish: Nick Taylor
My Bet: +250
Current Odds: +250
There isn’t a ton of value on the betting board in a field of just 60 players, however these odds on a player of Nick Taylor’s caliber to finish in the top-third of a fairly diluted field are hard to pass up. I’m chasing the narrative that Nick Taylor can cement a place on the Presidents Cup team with one more impressive showing for Canada, and he’s proven he can elevate his game when representing his native country on a positional course suited to his skillsets.
Top-20 Finish: Emiliano Grillo
My Bet: +250
Current Odds: +210
From a pure course profile fit standpoint, Le Golf National should cater well to Grillo’s strengths. He ranks top-20 in terms of Driving Accuracy, SG: Approach, and Proximity 100-200 yards, all encouraging signs for what is needed ahead of him this week. He’s also proven to elevate his putting baseline recently, an area of concern in the past which has overshadowed his otherwise world class ball-striking.
