Which Olympic Basketball Rosters Have The Most NBA Players?
With less than two weeks remaining until Olympic basketball tips off, it’s an opportune time to look at rosters for each team. Those betting on Olympic odds for men’s basketball will want to know which teams are loaded with NBA talent and which are bereft. Sure, talent alone doesn’t drive results — look no further than Team USA’s flameouts at the last two World Championships — but it still paints a pretty good outline of the teams’ relative strengths.
Let’s see what each team is working with on their Olympic basketball rosters. Click any of the odds below to make a wager at legal betting apps in your area.

Australia
Current NBA Players | Former NBA Players |
---|---|
Dyson Daniels, Josh Giddey, Patty Mills, Josh Green, Joe Ingles, Dante Exum, Jock Landale, Duop Reath | Matthew Dellavedova, Will Magnay |
Australia’s team has plentiful NBA talent, with only two players lacking NBA experience.
Jock Landale, though he had a poor season for the Rockets, exploded for a 20-7-6 line in the exhibition against Team USA.
The backcourt is especially strong, featuring Josh Giddey and Dyson Daniels. Though Patty Mills’ NBA career appears to be winding down, he has been a superstar for Australia in international play. He led the entire tournament in scoring in the 2012 and 2020 Olympics.
Canada
Current NBA Players | Former NBA Players |
---|---|
Nickeil Alexander-Walker, R.J. Barrett, Dillon Brooks, Lu Dort, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Trey Lyles, Jamal Murray, Andrew Nembhard, Kelly Olynyk, Dwight Powell | Khem Birch |
Nearly the entire Canadian roster has NBA experience and name value. Even Khem Birch, who now plays in Spain, had about a six-year run in the association. Only Melvin Ejim has yet to play an NBA minute, making Canada one of the most formidable teams in the event.
The point guards and the wing defense are the standouts here.
Jamal Murray and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will direct the offense and shoulder most of the scoring. The former is a year removed from helping lead a championship winner, while the latter spent 2023-24 as a prime contender in NBA MVP odds.
Dillon Brooks and Lu Dort make for about as strong a defensive wing combo as possible. R.J. Barrett and Nickeil Alexander-Walker are no slouches themselves. Opposing scorers will not enjoy attacking the Canada defense, though the interior looks a bit vulnerable.
Greece
Current NBA Players | Former NBA Players |
---|---|
Giannis Antetokounmpo | Kostas Papanikolaou, Nick Calathes, Kostas Antetokounmpo, Georgios Papagiannis |
Greece is more of a one-man show led by Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, he has yet to break through at the international level, as Greece has failed to medal in any international appearances led by the Greek Freak.
Nick Calathes, currently of AS Monaco, has one of the most decorated resumes of any non-NBA player. The Florida product has a laundry list of accomplishments overseas,, including multiple MVP honors.
Spain
Current NBA Players | Former NBA Players |
---|---|
Santi Aldama, Usman Garuba | Lorenzo Brown, Rudy Fernandez, Juancho Hernangomez, Willy Hernangomez, Alex Abrines |
A former international powerhouse, Spain medaled in three straight Olympics from 2008-2016 and won the World Championships in 2006 and 2019. However, the most recent cycle has seen a downturn as Spain finished just sixth in Tokyo and ninth in the last World Championship (2023).
Santi Aldama emerged as a solid rotation option last year on an injury-ravaged Memphis team. He also has a decorated international history with Spain’s youth teams.
The Hernangomez brothers also bring a wealth of NBA experience, though both have found their ways back overseas.
Brazil
Current NBA Players | Former NBA Players |
---|---|
Gui Santos, Maozinha Pereira | Marcelinho Huertas, Raul Neto, Didi Louzada, Bruno Caboclo, Cristiano Felicio |
The Brazilian squad lacks NBA experience. This team features a selection of players who got proverbial cups of coffee at the highest level. Even current NBA players Gui Santos and Maozinha Pereira boast just 130 NBA points combined.
Bruno Caboclo is a former first-round pick but didn’t amount to much.
The most successful NBA career here actually belongs to PG Raul Neto. He enjoyed an eight-year run and scored more than 2,000 NBA points, distinguishing himself as a solid backup who could run an NBA offense.
France
Current NBA Players | Former NBA Players |
---|---|
Nicolas Batum, Evan Fournier, Rudy Gobert, Victor Wembanyama, Bilal Coulibaly | Frank Ntilikina, Guerschon Yabusele, Nando de Colo |
Not even Team USA can boast a center combo like what France brings to the table. Four-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert and Victor Wembanyama combine to bring a wealth of size and complementary skillsets. Wembanyama was one of the most exciting NBA rookies in recent memory and looks like a future superstar.
The guard play looks a bit shakier. Evan Fournier has essentially become a walking salary match for trades in the NBA, Nando de Colo is 37, and Frank Ntilikina hasn’t developed as hoped after a decorated youth career.
Bilal Coulibaly brings youth and promise on the wing, though. He avoided embarrassing himself at age 19 on a dreadful Washington team, averaging 8.4/4.1/1.7.
Germany
Current NBA Players | Former NBA Players |
---|---|
Franz Wagner, Daniel Theis, Mo Wagner, Dennis Schroder | Isaac Bonga |
Not considered a basketball power, Germany has just one international medal and made a fairly shocking run to gold at the 2023 World Championships. They topped Australia in groups and then authored a huge upset, 113-111, over Team USA in the semifinals. In the gold medal game, they beat Serbia behind Schroder’s 28 points.
Franz Wagner is the most well-known and high-level performer in the NBA, but he has some help here. Stateside unknowns Johannes Voigtmann and Andreas Obst both played huge roles in the well-rounded German run.
Japan
Current NBA Players | Former NBA Players |
---|---|
Rui Hachimura | Yuta Watanabe |
Rui Hachimura leads the Japanese team. The former lottery pick had a fitful start with the Wizards before settling in as a reliable bench option for the Lakers, including performing well in the 2023 playoffs.
Sharpshooter Yuta Watanabe became one of the most accurate long-range gunners in the league for Brooklyn in 2022-23, nailing 44.4% of his triples. However, his results took a downturn last season. He signed with a Japanese team this summer.
One other notable for Japan is college star Keisei Tominaga. He endeared himself to Nebraska fans with his high-volume 3-point shooting, making more than 37% in his career despite a difficult shot diet. He signed with the Pacers as an undrafted free agent, so it remains to be seen where he winds up as a pro.
Puerto Rico
Current NBA Players | Former NBA Players |
---|---|
Jose Alvarado | Aleem Ford, Gian Clavell, Tremont Waters, Davon Reed |
The Puerto Rico squad is lighter on talent than some of the others. There are a few former G Leaguers in addition to the names above, but even the ones with NBA chops are light on those. Aleem Ford and Gian Clavell don’t exactly count as household names.
Jose Alvarado is easily the most notable of the bunch. The accomplished thief will try to lead Puerto Rico to an upset or two in Paris.
Serbia
Current NBA Players | Former NBA Players |
---|---|
Vasilije Micic, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Nikola Jovic, Nikola Jokic, | Aleksej Pokusevski, Marko Guduric, Filip Petrusev |
Serbia may lack the sheer numbers of some of the other teams like France and Australia, but they do make up for it with some star power.
Everything revolves around three-time MVP Nikola Jokic. The passing savant has yet to find his way to international gold, but he has helped lead a pair of silver medal runs in international competitions.
He has some help, too, with Bogdan Bogdanovic and Nikola Jovic enjoying strong seasons this year. Jovic looks like a possibly ascendant talent. Still just 21, he ratcheted up his efficiency big time, draining 40% from deep. Bogdanovic was a top Sixth Man of the Year candidate.
South Sudan
Current NBA Players | Former NBA Players |
---|---|
Bol Bol, JT Thor | Deng Adel, Wenyen Gabriel, Carlik Jones, Thon Maker, Mangok Mathiang, Marial Shayok |
Considered the longest shot in the event, South Sudan has some NBA talents in Bol Bol and JT Thor. We’ll see if the latter played his way into an overseas contract or if he catches on with another NBA team after failing to distinguish himself in Charlotte. Bol has shown flashes of intrigue but can’t seem to find the consistency.
In addition to the slew of former NBA players- Wenyen Gabriel is foremost among them- South Sudan features a roster that leans heavily on Australian league pros.
United States
Current NBA Players | Former NBA Players |
---|---|
Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Anthony Edwards, Joel Embiid, Bam Adebayo, Jrue Holiday, Anthony Davis, Devin Booker, Tyrese Haliburton, Derrick White, Jayson Tatum | None |
Hopefully, Team USA needs no introduction. This collection of superstars can stack up with any team USA Basketball has ever put together. The only question is whether they can mesh well enough and adjust to international ball well enough to let that talent shine through. On paper, there’s no question who should stand atop the podium come Aug. 10.
After mixed results in the team’s first two exhibitions, Team USA absolutely drubbed Serbia, 105-79. That may serve as a warning that the team is starting to gel after Australia gave them a scare in the second warm-up.
