Olympic Basketball Tournament Format
Group play kicks things off on July 27, lasting through Aug. 3. Each team plays each other team in its group once. Here’s how the teams are divvied up:

Last time out, points were awards as follows: two points per win, one point per loss, and no points per forfeit.
The top two teams in each group advance to knockouts. Additionally, the two best-performing third-place teams advance.
Those eight teams play quarterfinal matches on Aug. 6. They’ll be seeded into those matches, with the top two group winners on opposite sides of the bracket. They’ll play the two third-place teams.
The winners of those games advance to the semifinals on Aug. 8. The final four teams will then contest the medal games on Aug. 10, with winners competing for the gold medal and losers for the bronze.
