Ohio State Odds: Will Buckeyes Rebound?
Chris Holtmann’s team is reeling, dropping each of its last five contests. Although the Buckeyes possess the 20th-rated offensive efficiency across college basketball, that’s been their most glaring concern of late.
They’ve generated 0.87 PPP over their last two matchups, lacking much offensive spacing in particular. But Ohio State’s struggles could be seen as a buy-low opportunity — for both game odds and futures (see above). For one, it’s the unluckiest team in DI (per KenPom). This rating is a deviation in winning percentage between a team’s true record and its expected record, employing the correlated gaussian method.
The Buckeyes also present an extremely talented roster on paper. It’s built around freshman phenom Brice Sensabaugh, the Big Ten’s highest scoring underclassman. If Holtmann’s motion offense begins to click, especially in regards to attacking the rim via cuts and off-ball action, it delivers plenty of mismatches.
There have been positive signs defensively, too. Typically, Holtmann’s teams aren’t ultra-active when it comes to accruing takeaways. However, this group is manufacturing the sixth-highest turnover percentage in conference play. That has plenty to do with the return of ballhawk Isaac Likekele, an Oklahoma State transfer who took a leave of absence from the program in December.
Plus, they’re surrendering the 19th-lowest 3-point efficiency in the country. While that could insinuate negative regression in some cases, ShotQuality doesn’t foresee it, as the majority of their opponents are taking contested looks.
Hence, OSU may be worth taking a stab at in the national title futures market. The best available odds are . Below, you’ll even see Ohio State odds for its tilt against Iowa, along with a video breakdown.
