ReliaQuest Bowl betting
Last year, LSU recovered from a horrific start to nudge past Wisconsin, 35-31. Heisman winner Jayden Daniels did not play in the game and backup Garrett Nussmeier threw for nearly 400 yards. A -9 favorites, LSU did not cover, adding to the string of seven underdogs to cover in eight bowls here. Five other underdogs won the game outright. Traditionally, this bowl has a lopsided point spread (>7 points)
Previously, Mississippi State overcame the sudden and tragic death of Mike Leach to beat Illinois, 19-10. Up 12-10 all game long, Mississippi State scored on a fumble return with no time left on the clock to cover -3.5. The score was ultimately inconsequential to the pregame total set at 46.5 points.
Three of the last four outings saw the under cash. 18 of the last 24 underdogs covered the spread, but nine straight favorites covered from 1990-98 to bring the all-time series record to 17-16 in favor of underdogs. Overs all-time are 19-13-1.
