The 2024 ACC Tournament takes place Wednesday, March 13 through Saturday, March 16 at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. Tar Heels ROSTER
The Tar Heels continue to get big-time contributions from 6-foot-11 forward/center Armando Bacot, who is using his extra year of eligibility at UNC. Besides being named a preseason first-team All-ACC selection, Bacot made the preseason watch list for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award given to the top CBB center in the nation. The North Carolina big man is averaging a career double-double, including 14 PPG and 10.2 RPG this season.
Senior RJ Davis is among the nation’s top point guards and made the preseason watch list for the Bob Cousy Award. Davis entered the 2023-24 season with over 1,300 career points. He is averaging over 21.5 PPG to go along with 3.5 APG nearly 3.8 RPG at UNC.
Harrison Ingram, a 6-foot-7 junior forward, is the newcomer to the Tar Heels lineup after transferring from Stanford. Ingram continues to build on a standout freshman season that included being named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. Ingram seems to be adjusting just fine to Tar Heels with season averages of 12.5 PPG and 9.2 RPG.

HOW TO BET ON THE Tar Heels
Moneyline
When it comes to NC sports betting apps, The moneyline bet is as basic as it gets. The bettor picks a winner straight up without any points. Check out the hypothetical North Carolina men’s basketball example below:

- Kentucky +160
Using the above hypothetical example, the line tells us that the Tar Heels are a small favorite over the Wildcats due to the “-” before the number. If a bettor places a wager on UNC, the Tar Heels need to win the game straight up for the wager to cash. A $100 winning bet on UNC would pay $190.91 – $90.91 profit plus the initial stake back. The Kentucky side would generate a higher payout as a result of the “plus” money that comes with a team being the underdog. Based on the odds above, a Kentucky win would pay $260 – $160 profit on top of the initial bet.
Point Spread
Point spread bets bring an extra layer to the moneyline concept. The difference is, depending on which side you pick, a team can win or lose by a set amount of points. If you bet on a squad with a “+” before their number, they can either win the game outright or lose it by whatever the point spread. The favorite or teams with a “-” before the number must win by more than the points set by the sportsbook.
Here’s a hypothetical example from a recent UNC game:
- North Carolina -2.5 (-110)
- Villanova +2.5 (-110)
In this case, the odds tell us that the Tar Heels were a small favorite over the Wildcats, and need to win the game by three points or more for bettors to cash winning tickets. However, UNC ended up losing the game outright in OT, 83-81. This means those who took North Carolia minus the points, or even the moneyline, had losing tickets.
NC sports betting apps will also list a larger number in parentheses. This is the price or “vig” the sportsbook is charging for the spread. So if a bettor wants to win $100, and the number in parenthesis is -110, they would need to risk or wager $110.
Point Total (Over/Under)
A totals bet, also known as the over/under, centers around the final score of a UNC basketball game. The sportsbook sets a total for each game, and the bettor needs to decide which side of the line the final score will end up. No matter what the number is, the odds typically range between -105 and -115.
During an early season game versus UConn, DraftKings Sportsbook set the final combined score at 152. The Huskies ended up winning the game 87-76 and the total ended up being 163. So any bettors who took the over ended up with winning tickets. With odds for totals typically at -110, the total payout on a $100 bet would be $190.91 – $90.91 plus the initial stake back.
In-Play, Live Betting
All of the wagers mentioned above can be placed prior to the tip or after the game starts. The latter is considered live betting in which the odds constantly change throughout the game. Many of the live betting markets are not available in the pre-live betting menu.
Say UNC is a pre-game -22.5-point-favorite heading in a game versus UC Riverside. Bettors are confident North Carolina is going to win the game, but think the final score is going to be a little closer. At the half, UNC is only up 37-26, and you’re concerned the Tar Heels will not cover. Your sportsbook post a live spread of UNC -14.5. If you like this line better, you can make a live point spread bet. Keep in mind there will be a very small window in which that number will be available. With a final score of 77-52, both the the hypothetical opening and live betting lines would’ve produced winning tickets.
Parlaying North Carolina Basketball Odds
Parlay bets offer the option of combining two or more bets, also known as legs, and improve the betting odds. The catch is each leg of the parlay must hit for the bet to be a winner. For example, say there is a North Carolina moneyline of -250. The number isn’t very attractive as a standalone single bet as a winning $100 bet would only generate $140 total. However, a bettor could hypothetically combine it with Armando Bacot to score over 14.5 points (-110) and RJ Davis over 3.5+ rebounds (+110). The same-game parlay odds are a much more attractive +461. But all three bets must win for your parlay to cash.
One thing to consider is many sports betting apps offer a cash-out option or a SGP insurance promo available for parlays. This gives customers the option to consider taking a small win or minimal loss instead of waiting to find out if all legs of the bet will hit. If you use a book that offers an insurance promo, it could include a bonus bet if three of the four legs of a SGP hit. Bettors should never rely on cashing out at any point.
