This year’s BMW Championship will occur Thursday, August 22 through Sunday, August 25 at Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock, Colorado. Viktor Hovland won the event last year with a 2-stroke victory over Scottie Scheffler and Matt Fitzpatrick. He will set out to defend his title this year, assuming he qualifies in the top 50 of the season-long FedEx Cup standings.

Castle pines Country Club

Castle Pines is a brand new venue on the PGA TOUR, and marks the first time the state of Colorado will host a TOUR event. As such, there’s hardly any precedent for how the world’s best will fare in the thin air at elevation. Although the 8,130 yardage looks intimidating, its actual playing distance will play 10% shorter, so we should effectively view this layout as a 7,310-yard par-72.

It remains to be seen just how much of a test Castle Pines poses to the field, but I expect to see plenty of bite from this course with ample water hazards and pine trees in play throughout. Expect the usual premium on Total Driving and approach precision, with a slight edge to be had from players experienced with playing at elevation.
