The Duke’s Mayo Bowl – formerly the Belk Bowl – is scheduled to kick off on Dec. 30 at noon ET during the 2022-23 College Football Bowl Season. The game is held at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC, home of the Panthers. The bowl game became a cult favorite after the winning coach (Shane Beamer) was doused in mayonnaise. This year, the No. 23 NC State Wolfpack (8-4) play the Maryland Terrapins (7-5). Below, we’ll look at Duke’s Mayo Bowl odds and bowl history.

Maryland is a slight favorite over NC State in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. Taulia Tagovailoa will play in the game despite battling injury late in the season. He’ll be without receivers Jacob Copeland, Rakim Jarrett, and Dontay Demus, who declared for the NFL Draft. Two defensive starters are also out of this game– linebacker Ahmad McCullough and corner Deonte Banks.
Expect a healthy dose of terrific running back Roman Hemby, who exploded onto the scene this season. Hemby averages 5.6 yards per carry with 10 touchdowns, but he goes against the fourth-ranked rushing EPA defense in NC State.
On the other side, it’s unclear who suits up at QB for NC State. Devin Leary suffered a season-ending injury back in October and hit the portal. Backup MJ Morris missed the last two games of the year with an injury. Ben Finley started the Wolfpack’s final two games, one of which was disastrous against Louisville after Jack Chambers got benched in that game. Keep up with NC State beat to see who starts.
The Wolfpack are even more shorthanded, with offensive coordinator Tim Beck out to coach Coastal Carolina and starting center Grant Gibson out with an injury.
With so many absences on both sides, this game has high variance despite a modest point total.
Notable Opt Outs
Maryland: WR Jacob Copeland, WR Rakim Jarrett, WR Dontay Demus, CB Deonte Banks, LB Ahmad McCullough
NC State: None
Duke’s Mayo Bowl betting
Without a true starting quarterback, Shane Beamer put his name on the map when his South Carolina Gamecocks upset North Carolina as 12.5-point underdogs. Beamer installed a brilliant game plan that the Tar Heels had no answer for, rotating QBs due to situation and confusing the daylights out of UNC. South Carolina prevailed 38-21 and Beamer got the mayo bath. With 59 combined points, over 57.5 cashed.
Previous Years
Underdogs have cashed in four of the last five seasons in the Duke’s Mayo/Belk Bowl. Wisconsin broke the streak with a resounding 42-28 win over Wake Forest as 10-point favorites in 2020. The last three games also saw the over cash with high-scoring affairs.
The recent run underdogs have had comes after favorites covered in six straight bowl games from 2011-16. Overs are 12-8 all-time in the bowl game.
