Lawmakers have set a launch date for North Carolina sportsbooks. Online betting sites in the state will go live on March 11, just in time for March Madness wagering. In addition to this, Underdog Fantasy partnered with McConnel Golf, securing market access to launch its popular DFS app for locals.

March 11 Launch Date Set For North Carolina Sportsbooks

During the North Carolina Lottery Commission meeting this morning, regulators set March 11 as the go-live date for sportsbooks in North Carolina. The target has always been to be live in time for March Madness betting. With the launch date announced, that target has officially become a reality.

Sportsbook operators can begin the registration period on March 1. Customers in the state should expect to see pre-registration offers for those who sign up for an account early. It’s a great way to build your bankroll to wager on the NCAA basketball tourney.

In addition to the big news about the launch date, Underdog Fantasy also secured a big deal this week for market access in the state.

Underdog Fantasy Meets North Carolina

The partnership makes Underdog an official sportsbook partner of McConnell Golf, host of the PGA TOUR’s Wyndham Championship in Greensboro. Since regulations require operators to partner with local sports teams or venues to gain market access, Underdog is now eligible for a license in NC.

“Underdog is thrilled to launch our betting games in North Carolina in partnership with McConnell Golf,” said Jeremy Levine, founder and co-CEO of Underdog Sports. “We’ve spent the last four years building our own technology so we can give sports fans in America new and different ways to enjoy the sports they love. We’re excited to be able to offer that to North Carolinians and look forward to evolving the experience with them.”

Underdog is one of nine applicants who have submitted applications to the North Carolina State Lottery Commission. The applications are still under review, and no sportsbook licenses have been awarded as of yet. The Lottery Commission has 60 days to review applications before approving or denying applicants.

Next Steps For North Carolina Betting

With the addition of Underdog Fantasy, North Carolina will have a plethora of sports betting and DFS options upon launch. That is, of course, assuming all applicants are approved. There will also be retail betting options at local tribal casinos that will launch after online sportsbooks. Customers can look forward to betting launching before the NCAA Men’s and Women’s basketball tournaments in March. The governor has made it clear that’s what he wants, and regulators are poised to get things launched just in time.

Sportsbook partnerships have already been announced for several big-name operators in the Tar Heel State. These sportsbooks will begin seeing their applications approved in the coming weeks after showing the Lottery Commission they can launch in the proposed timeframe.
