PENN Entertainment has secured market access in North Carolina for its ESPN BET operation. ESPN BET and Quail Hollow Club, a PGA TOUR venue in Charlotte, have entered a strategic partnership for this access. PENN is one of 11 operators to submit a sportsbook application for the upcoming North Carolina sports betting market.

ESPN BET Meets Quail HOllow

In addition to market access, this partnership makes ESPN BET the official sports betting operator for the Wells Fargo Championship. The PGA TOUR event is held at Quail Hollow Club. Fans will notice signage from ESPN BET during the event. Marketing integrations will be showcased between the popular sportsbook and Quail Hollow Club during and surrounding the championship.

“We are thrilled to partner with Quail Hollow Club and the Wells Fargo Championship as we prepare to bring our new online sports betting brand, ESPN BET, to North Carolina,” said Benjie Levy, Head of Penn Interactive. “Along with market access, we’re excited to sponsor the popular Wells Fargo Championship and look forward to working together with our new partners to create unique fan activations.”

Fans will also notice special promotions surrounding the Wells Fargo Championship available through this deal. PENN Entertainment and Quail Hollow Club have expressed excitement for the future with the strategic partnership.

“We welcome the upcoming launch of regulated online sports wagering in North Carolina and are extremely pleased to partner with a leading gaming and entertainment operator in PENN Entertainment,” said Johnny Harris, President of Quail Hollow Club. “PENN’s compelling online sports betting brand ESPN BET, cutting-edge technology and extensive operational expertise make them an ideal long-term partner for this industry.”

Eleven Sportsbooks Apply For North Carolina Licenses So Far

North Carolina released applications for their upcoming expanded gambling market last week. So far, 43 requests for licenses have been made: 11 for sports betting licenses, 24 for supplier licenses, and eight for service provider licenses. Operators have until Dec. 27 to submit applications.

There is still no official launch window for North Carolina sportsbooks. The only thing confirmed is that sportsbooks will not launch in time for the Super Bowl. However, there is optimism that NC would aim to be live in time for the March Madness tournament.

Operators are giving themselves a 60-day review window to oversee applications. This will begin after the Dec. 27 submission deadline. After this phase, there should be a clear indication of when sportsbooks will arrive in North Carolina.
