White Sox Top Pitching Prospect Noah Schultz Set for MLB Debut
Chicago White Sox No. 2 overall prospect Noah Schultz is getting the call and is set to make his Major League debut against the Tampa Bay Rays at home tonight at 7:40 PM EST.
Schultz is one of two highly-touted left-handed starting pitchers currently in the White Sox system, alongside fellow southpaw Hagen Smith. He'll get his chance to stick with the club in mid-April as Chicago sits at 6-10 overall.
Noah Schultz to Make MLB Debut for White Sox Tuesday
The 21-year-old carries an intimidating frame for opposing batters, standing 6-foot-10 and around 240 pounds. He's currently ranked 45th overall on MLB.com's Top 100 prospect list. Schulz was also ranked 26th on Baseball America's pre-2026 list after checking in at No. 10 heading into last season. He's the 12th-ranked pitching prospect according to MLB.com
Schultz has been dominant at Triple-A Charlotte to start the year — a perfect 3-0 with a minuscule 1.29 ERA and a 19-to-2 strikeout-to-walk ratio across 14 innings. Last season across two minor league levels, he posted a 4.68 ERA with 76 strikeouts in 73 innings.
According to MLB.com's Scott Merkin, Schultz gave a surprise phone call to his long-time pitching coach, Mark Sheehan, to attend his MLB debut on Tuesday.
“Then it dawned on me like, ‘Oh my god,’” Sheehan told Merkin. “As soon as I answered, he goes, ‘Change your travel plans. You are going to Chicago.’ It was pretty amazing.”
Schultz, a first-round pick out of Oswego East High School in Illinois in the 2022 MLB Draft, has the stuff to be a front-of-the-rotation arm if everything clicks. Oddsmakers across the industry have set his strikeout prop at 4.5 for tonight's debut against the Rays.
