Noah Lyles is the fun, energetic, trash-talking star of the Team USA men’s track and field squad at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. He has made it clear he wants to join legends Usain Bolt (2008-16) and Carl Lewis (1984) as the only men in the past 40 years to win Olympic gold in both the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints. Olympic track odds make Lyles a big favorite in both events. He’s halfway there after scooping gold in the 100, with his better event still to come. See below for Noah Lyles odds and his track schedule at the Paris Games.

Noah Lyles Odds: Even Money in 100M Sprint

Note that markets as of July 29 (prior to heats) have more options listed, so consult your local sportsbook for a complete list of odds.

Men’s 100m Preview

Lyles has joked the 200m is his wife, but the 100m is his mistress. While the 200m is definitely his stronger event, sportsbooks are still making him the favorite in the more fickle 100m.

Despite being a 27-year-old veteran with multiple world titles to his name, Lyles has failed to grasp Olympic success. Due to what he described as mental health struggles and poor training, he only tallied a single bronze in Tokyo, that in his best event, the 200m.

Due to Lyles’ age, it may be now or never for Olympic sprinting gold. Competitors in their 30s have a very limited track record of success in such events.

Luckily for Lyles, things have set up well for him entering the Paris Games. He won the 100-meter at the World Championships last year, topping Letsile Tebogo (silver) and Zharnel Hughes (bronze) with a 9.83, at the time a personal best and the world-leading mark for the season. Lyles has since edged past that with a 9.81 this July in an Olympic tune-up.

Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson is expected to lock horns with Lyles in a duel for gold. The freshly-turned 23-year-old has the better time this year at 9.77, though he lacks Lyles’ more extensive track record of success.

Lyles Wins Gold After Lukewarm Heats

Lyles didn’t have a particularly inspiring route to the 100-meter final. He landed north of 10 seconds in his first heat and then finished second in his semifinal behind Obique Seville.

Heading into the final, his odds had plummeted from around +100 to +600.

Lyles fired a late charge to nip Kishane Thompson and fellow American Fred Kerley with a 9.79. Officially, Thompson also finished at 9.79, with Kerley at 9.81 for bronze. Lyles overcame a poor start that had him in last place almost halfway through the sprint.

If Lyles can be hopeful in the 100-meter, he will have to battle overconfidence in the 200. He has the fourth-best time ever (19.31) in the 200, with three World Championship golds to his name. Understandably, the market expects him to triumph here.

In fact, after Lyles took his 100-meter gold, he has shortened here. Originally, he had odds south of -500. Now, he’s pushing -700, with around 87% implied probability.

Lyles proclaimed that he has bigger goals than merely gold and is gunning for Usain Bolt’s 19.19 world mark.

Erriyon Knighton and Letsile Tebogo won silver and bronze, respectively, behind Lyles at the last World Championship.

Fellow American Kenneth Bednarek finished just fifth there, posting a time north of 20 seconds. However, he’s expected to be a top medal contender. He won silver in Tokyo and has multiple runs under 20 seconds in his career.

Lyles & Team USA Favorites IN 4×100 Relay

Lyles has been a member of the 4×100 team at the past two World Championships. In 2022, Team USA took silver on home turf. A slightly reworked team — Christian Coleman, Fred Kerley, Lyles, and Brandon Carnes — won gold in 2023.

Italy took a surprising silver over Jamaica, the clear No. 2 in the odds.

It’s a safe bet that, barring injury in the early events, Lyles will find his way onto the relay squad again. Team USA should have a strong shot at gold as long as nothing goes awry in the initial races.

Lyles’ strong 100-meter finish, along with the bronze going to Kerley, has boosted Team USA’s odds slightly in the past couple of days. They’ve inched up past -300 on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Noah Lyles Expected Olympic Schedule

Lyles’ schedule begins with the early heats in the 100m, taking place on Aug. 3 in the early morning hours of U.S. time. That means bettors who want to get ahead of any odds movement can get their wagers in prior, while those who want to evaluate the heats should wait until afterward.

The following days will see the 100 end and the 200 begin.

Initial heats for the relay actually take place the same day as the 200-meter final. Therefore, expect Lyles to cede his spot on the relay team, at least during qualifying. Most likely, Team USA will still get through, but it’s something to keep in mind.

Additionally, one wonders if fatigue becomes a factor at some point, with Lyles scheduled to compete almost every day for a week.
