When will Nick Chubb return and be back with the Browns?
Update: Chubb is expected to practice this week.
Fantasy football owners and Browns fans have consistently been looking for an update on when will Nick Chubb return and be back on the field for Cleveland. Chubb will definitely miss the Browns’ first four games of the regular season. Cleveland will place Chubb on the PUP list and by NFL rules that knocks him out of the team’s first four games.
It is highly unlikely that Chubb will be back for the Browns’ Week 5 game against the Commanders or the team’s Week 6 game against the Eagles. The Browns are going to take things extremely slow with Chubb this season, even if Jerome Ford were to go down with an injury.
The best case scenario is that Chubb returns for the Browns’ Week 7 game against the Bengals. The worst-case scenario for Chubb fantasy football owners is if he doesn’t return until after Cleveland’s bye week, which takes place in Week 10. Here is a look at the Browns’ schedule around the time Chubb is expected to be back.
- Week 7 Sunday, October 20: Bengals at Browns
- Week 8 Sunday, October 27: Ravens at Browns
- Week 9 Sunday, November 3: Chargers at Browns
- Week 10 Sunday, November 10: Bye week
- Week 11 Sunday, November 17: Browns at Saints
Kevin Patra, of NFL.com, wrote in late August that “the running back was always more likely to return sometime in October rather than being ready for the start of the season.”
Patra added that Chubb’s return will likely come with “an additional ramp-up period” following the first four games of the season.
How long will Chubb be out?
The typical recovery from an ACL tear is eight to nine months. Given that there was real cause for concern that this was a career-ending injury at the time, however, the Browns are opting to go the conservative route with Chubb’s timeline for return.
