NHL Anytime Goal Scorer Predictions for Sept. 29: McDavid Starts Strong

It’s the opening day of the 2026-27 NHL season, and that brings us to my top anytime goal scorer props for Tuesday, Sept. 29. There are five games on the schedule, including a pair of Original Six matchups on the ice.

We’ll see the defending champions in action as the Florida Panthers face the Carolina Hurricanes. In addition, we’ll see the New York Rangers head to Beantown to face the Boston Bruins. Elsewhere, the Montreal Canadiens take on the Toronto Maple Leafs. Let’s take a look at our favorite NHL goal scorer props today.

Goal Scorer Prop #1: Connor McDavid, Oilers

We’ll start our goal-scoring props with a game between Pacific Division squads as the Vancouver Canucks travel to take on the Edmonton Oilers.

When you talk about the Oilers, there are two names you automatically think of as far as offensive weapons. There’s Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid. We’re going to back McDavid to dent the twine in this contest.

He played in all 82 regular season games last season. In those contests, McDavid tallied 48 goals while adding 90 assists for 138 points. He’s cracked the 40-goal plateau five times in his career and has 409 career goals in 794 regular season games. In addition, Vancouver was dead last in goals against (3.83 goals per game) in 2025-26.

McDavid has 24 goals and 51 assists for 75 points in 46 career games against the Canucks. Expect him to do damage against Vancouver again in this one.

Goal Scorer Prop #2: Auston Matthews, Maple Leafs

For our second goal scorer prop, we head to the 6ix, where the Montreal Canadiens travel to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs in an Original Six tilt.

Auston Matthews had a down season last year. He dealt with injuries all season long. His year ended after a hit by Radko Gudas in March, and he played just 60 games. For the season, Matthews had 27 goals and 26 assists for 53 points. He set career lows in goals and points while marking his second straight season with fewer than 70 games.

It’s a new season and a revamped Toronto lineup. The team made a deal Monday, sending a package highlighted by Matthew Knies to Columbus. Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs acquired Kirill Marchenko, who they promptly signed to a six-year extension worth $12.5 million a year. They also added goaltender Elvis Merzlikins, so we’ll see how the goaltending situation shakes out.

Matthews has 29 goals and 18 assists in 40 career regular-season games against the Canadiens. With Gavin McKenna, Marchenko, William Nylander, John Tavares and Easton Cowan up front, Matthews should have his chances to do damage here.

Goal Scorer Prop #3: David Pastrnak, Bruins

We’ll close out by looking at top anytime goal scorer props with the other Original Six matchup. The New York Rangers travel to Beantown to face the Boston Bruins.

David Pastrnak is in the prime of his career. He’s posted at least 100 points in four straight seasons entering the 2026-27 campaign. In addition, he scored at least 34 goals eight times in his 12 years in the league. That includes five seasons where he cracked the 40-goal plateau.

While Pastrnak tallied just 29 goals last season, he did add 71 assists for 100 points. The Bruins face a Rangers squad that was middle of the road (15th with 3.04 goals per game) in goals against last season.

In addition, Pastrnak enjoys squaring off with the Blueshirts. In his career, he’s faced New York 39 times, tallying 18 goals and dishing out 31 assists for 49 points. Pastrnak also has 229 goals and 263 assists for 492 points in 412 games at TD Garden in his career. With the talent that he brings to the table, look for Pastrnak to light the lamp here for the Bruins.
