In one of the two games on the docket, the Vegas Golden Knights are on the road as they travel to take on the Anaheim Ducks in Game 4 of their Western Conference semifinals series Sunday night and we have you covered with our Golden Knights vs. Ducks prediction. Vegas took the series opener, prevailing 3-1 at home, Monday night to draw first blood in the series. The Ducks squared things up with a 3-1 road triumph in Game 2 Wednesday night. Vegas regained home ice advantage with a 6-2 road win Friday night in Game 3.

Will the Golden Knights take a 3-1 stranglehold in the series or can Anaheim find a way to even things up on home ice? Let’s break down this Golden Knights vs. Ducks matchup.

Golden Knights Seek for 3-1 Series Edge

Vegas bounced back from a tough showing in Game 2 at home as they rolled to a victory on the road in Game 3 Friday night. The Golden Knights look to build momentum off that win and put the Ducks on the ropes.

In Game 3, Vegas took control early and didn’t let Anaheim back in the game to earn the win. The Golden Knights were outshot 11-8 in the opening period but skated off with a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes. Shea Theodore opened the scoring with his third goal of the playoffs at 1:06 of the period. Jack Eichel and Mark Stone drew assists on the goal. Later in the period, Brayden McNabb made it a 2-0 game with a shorthanded goal, his first of the playoffs, at 12:13. Mitch Marner drew the lone assist on the goal. Marner extended to a 3-0 edge with his fourth goal of the playoffs, on the power play, at 19:55. Pavel Dorofeyev and Colton Sissons drew the assists.

The second period was more of the same. Vegas was edged 10-9 in shots but outscored Anaheim 2-0 for a 5-0 advantage at the second intermission. Marner tallied his second of the game and fifth of the postseason at 9:19 for a 4-0 advantage. Theodore and Brett Howden drew assists on that goal. Marner capped his hat trick with his third goal of the game and sixth of the playoffs at 17:56, making it 5-0. William Karlsson and Ivan Barbashev assisted on the goal. The third period saw Vegas outshot 12-11 and outscored 2-1, yet it had little impact on the final result. However,  after giving up a pair of goals to narrow the margin to 5-2, Howden closed the scoring with his sixth of the postseason. The empty net goal was unassisted and came at 18:04.

Carter Hart made 31 saves for the Golden Knights, who were outshot 33-28, in the victory. Hart (6-3-0, 2.29 GAA, .915 save percentage) projects to be between the pipes again here.

Ducks Trying to Even Things Up at Home

Anaheim took Game 2 on the road and seemed primed to take charge at home. Instead, the Ducks fell behind early and never got back in the contest Friday night. They now need a win here to turn the series into a best of three.

Anaheim owned an 11-8 shot advantage in the opening period and trailed 3-0 at the first intermission. Things didn’t get any better in the second period for the Ducks.  Anaheim held a 10-9 advantage in shots but was outscored 2-0. That put the Ducks in a 5-0 hole after 40 minutes of play. It proved to be too deep a hole to dig out of for the hosts. Anaheim owned a 12-11 shot edge in the final period and outscored Vegas 2-1, winding up with the loss. Bennett Sennecke got the Ducks on the board with his third playoff goal at 6:30. Assists went to Alex Killorn and Mikael Granlund.

Chris Kreider made it a 5-2 game with his second of the playoffs at 15:09. The helpers on that goal went to Troy Terry and Leo Carlsson. However, that was as close as the Ducks got as the Golden Knights closed the scoring with an empty net goal. Lukas Dostal stopped five of eight shots before getting pulled after one period. Meanwhile, Ville Husso stopped 17 of 19 in relief for Anaheim, who owned a 33-28 shot edge, in defeat. Dostal (5-2-0, 3.48 GAA, .876 save percentage) gets the start in goal here.

Golden Knights vs. Ducks Prediction

This is a clash that, at least in the special teams department, is the irresistible force and the immovable object. Vegas has killed 26 of 27 shorthanded situations in the postseason. The Golden Knights have more shorthanded goals (three) than allowed power play markers (one) in the playoffs. Anaheim is eight of 27 on the power play in the playoffs.  The difference is simple: they were eight of 16 against Edmonton but 0 for 11 in this series. Dostal isn’t up to par right now while Hart is on a roll at the moment. Therefore,  give the edge to the Golden Knights in this contest.

Our Prediction: Golden Knights (-114, FanDuel)
