Stars vs. Avalanche Prediction, Odds and Props for Oct. 14: Dallas Gets Revenge

The Stars vs. Avalanche prediction for Wednesday, October 14, features a rematch between two of the NHL's most talented teams with Stanley Cup aspirations. After the Colorado Avalanche earned a 3-2 road victory over the Dallas Stars on Tuesday, these two Central Division rivals will meet again just 24 hours later, this time in Denver.
Colorado won the first meeting, but Dallas has an immediate opportunity to get revenge. Below, we'll break down the latest odds, betting trends, predictions and best player props for Wednesday's matchup.
Stars vs. Avalanche Odds
The Avalanche enter Wednesday's contest with a 4-2-0 record after Tuesday's victory, while the Stars have fallen to 2-3-1 and lost two consecutive games. Colorado is once again the favorite, although the odds have shifted considerably with the Avalanche now playing on home ice.
Here are the latest Stars vs. Avalanche odds:
- Puck Line: Stars +1.5 (-192) / Avalanche -1.5 (+158)
- Moneyline: Stars (+125) / Avalanche (-150)
- Total: Over 6 (-110) / Under 6 (-110)

Colorado's moneyline reflects its home-ice advantage and the momentum from Tuesday's win. However, Dallas at +125 is an intriguing opportunity for bettors who believe the Stars can respond after a competitive first meeting.
The total remains at six goals, with oddsmakers pricing both sides evenly.
Dallas Stars Betting Trends
- Dallas enters Wednesday with a 2-3-1 record through six games.
- The Stars have lost two consecutive contests, including Tuesday's 3-2 defeat.
- Dallas trailed Colorado 3-1 for much of the third period before cutting the deficit to one.
- The Stars have scored just four goals over their last two games.
- Dallas has another opportunity to snap its losing streak against a familiar division rival.
Dallas hasn't gotten off to the start it envisioned this season, especially given the expectations surrounding this roster. The Stars are consistently among the NHL 's best teams, but offensive production and overall consistency have been issues through the opening stretch.
Tuesday's game was another example. Dallas struggled to keep pace with Colorado for much of the contest and found itself trailing by two goals deep into the third period.
However, the Stars showed some encouraging signs late. They found ways to generate opportunities, increased the pressure and ultimately made the game competitive before running out of time.
That late push could be important entering Wednesday's rematch. Dallas doesn't have much time to make adjustments, but the Stars have already seen what worked against Colorado and should have a better understanding of how to attack this matchup.
Colorado Avalanche Betting Trends
- Colorado enters Wednesday with a 4-2-0 record.
- The Avalanche have won four of their first six games.
- Colorado defeated Dallas 3-2 on Tuesday night.
- Martin Necas scored twice in Tuesday's victory against his former team.
- The Avalanche have won the first matchup of this back-to-back home-and-home series.
Colorado continues to look like a legitimate Stanley Cup contender, and Tuesday's performance showed why.
The Avalanche were the more dominant team for much of the game, building a 3-1 advantage and controlling the contest before Dallas made its late push.
Colorado's offensive firepower remains its biggest strength. With Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar and Necas leading the way, the Avalanche have multiple players capable of taking over a game.
Playing at home should provide another advantage, especially after earning a road victory just one night earlier. Still, the Avalanche weren't perfect Tuesday. Dallas found opportunities late, and Colorado will need to avoid another stretch where it allows the Stars to build momentum.
Stars vs. Avalanche Prediction: Dallas Moneyline (+125)
My favorite Stars vs. Avalanche prediction is Dallas on the moneyline at +125.
Interestingly enough, I'm taking the road team to win for the second consecutive night. Colorado was my pick Tuesday, and the Avalanche delivered with a 3-2 victory. But now I like Dallas to flip the script and get some revenge in Denver.
The Stars were outplayed for significant stretches of Tuesday's game, but they also showed signs of life as the contest progressed. They made adjustments, created some opportunities and put themselves in a position to potentially force overtime.
And while Dallas has struggled early, this is still one of the best teams in hockey. The Stars have enough talent to compete with Colorado, even if they haven't looked like their best selves through the opening six games.
The other factor is the price. Getting Dallas at +125 at most sportsbooks feels like good value for a team that's due for a slump-busting performance.
I'm not interested in taking the Stars on the puck line because beating Colorado by multiple goals is a difficult assignment. The Avalanche have too much offensive firepower to confidently predict a comfortable Dallas victory.
Instead, I'll take the moneyline and back the Stars to earn a hard-fought road win.
I'm also expecting more scoring than we saw Tuesday. Both teams know what to expect from one another now, and I believe the offenses will make adjustments that create more opportunities.
Best Bet: Dallas Stars Moneyline (+125 via BetMGM)
Final Prediction: Stars 4, Avalanche 3
More Stars vs. Avalanche Picks, Props and Best Bets
There are four additional wagers worth considering for Wednesday's rematch, including the over and three player props.
- Over 6 Total Goals (-110 via DraftKings): Tuesday's matchup finished with five goals, but I expect more offense this time around. Both teams have tremendous scoring talent, and the quick turnaround should create opportunities for adjustments. With a projected 4-3 Dallas victory, I'm backing the over.
- Martin Necas Anytime Goal Scorer (+172 via DraftKings): Necas was the difference Tuesday, scoring twice against his former team. He was a key part of the trade involving Mikko Rantanen, adding another layer to this matchup. After seeing how effective he was in Dallas, I like Necas to find the back of the net again Wednesday at +172 on most sports betting apps.
- Mikko Rantanen Anytime Goal Scorer (+195 via DraftKings): Rantanen hasn't gotten off to the offensive start he envisioned, but he showed some encouraging signs Tuesday against his former team. This is another opportunity to make an impact against Colorado, and getting nearly +200 odds on a scorer of his caliber is appealing.
- Nathan MacKinnon Over 1.5 Points (+115 via DraftKings): MacKinnon is one of the most dangerous offensive players in hockey because he can score and facilitate at an elite level. He recorded two assists Tuesday, and he's capable of producing multiple points on any given night. At plus-money odds, backing him for at least two points is one of my favorite player props.
