Hurricanes Overcome Early Adversity to Keep Series Alive with Game 2 Win Over Golden Knights

The Carolina Hurricanes survived early adversity in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final, and in doing so, kept their season alive.

Entering Game 2 down 1-0 in the series to the Vegas Golden Knights, the Hurricanes let Vegas score the first two goals of the game to go up 2-0. Everything pointed to the Golden Knights having the momentum, winning that game and going up 2-0 in the series before heading back home for Games 3 and 4, which would’ve been a detrimental hole for Carolina to fall into.

But Carolina exploded late in the third period, getting a trio of goals to take a 3-2 lead late. From there, though, Vegas delivered what felt like a backbreaker, as Mark Stone scored with just over a minute left in regulation to send the game to overtime.

And from there, it didn’t take long.

Carolina took advantage of a power play to win the game 4-3, and now this is an even series knotted up at one game apiece.

The big headline is the Hurricanes overcoming adversity early on. Down 2-0 in a game, especially late, it took everything for Carolina to score those goals and keep the series alive. It would be a whole different story if Carolina were heading to Vegas down 2-0, but at 1-1, this is a fresh series and a fresh slate.

The Stanley Cup Final now pivots to Vegas for the next two games, and Carolina has at least some level of momentum after pulling off one of the biggest comebacks of its season. This could be the game we look back on as a pivotal moment, especially if the Hurricanes ultimately win this series and hoist the Stanley Cup in the coming weeks.
