The Vegas Golden Knights already punched their ticket this week by sweeping the Colorado Avalanche, and now the Carolina Hurricanes are one win away from joining them after a dominant 4-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night. That puts Carolina up 3-1 in the Eastern Conference Final, and if the Hurricanes can finish the job, we will officially know the Stanley Cup Final matchup.

Carolina took complete control of this game from start to finish, and at this point, the Hurricanes are firmly in the driver’s seat. They have looked like the better team for the majority of this series, and now they have all the momentum going into Game 5.

Game 4 just felt massive. If Montreal had found a way to apply real pressure or grab momentum, this series could have looked very different. Instead, Carolina effectively slammed the door shut, and now the Canadiens would have to win three games in a row to come out on top. That is an extremely difficult task this late in the playoffs, especially against a team that has looked as composed and in control as Carolina has.

So at this point, barring a historic comeback, we are looking at a Vegas-Carolina Stanley Cup Final, and that would be a phenomenal matchup between two heavyweight teams that have both been contenders for the last several years.

It also means we are going to get a new champion. The last few seasons have been dominated by the Florida Panthers, but this year that run is coming to an end. One more win, and Carolina will officially set up a Stanley Cup Final showdown with Vegas.
