Von Miller Joins Dallas Cowboys in Homecoming Move

The Dallas Cowboys are making a splash during the preseason, as they continue to find ways to improve the team.
They've made a move to bolster their defense before the regular season begins, bringing one of the greatest pass rushers of this era of football to Dallas. Eight-time Pro Bowler Von Miller has agreed to a one-year deal with the Cowboys, adding another veteran to a Dallas defense that hasn't been great of late but should have a new look entering the upcoming campaign.
While Miller is no longer the cream-of-the-crop defensive player he once was and isn't considered a tier-one pass rusher at this stage of his career, he's still productive.
The 37-year-old spent last season with the Washington Commanders and finished with nine sacks across 17 games, leading the team in sacks despite playing a rotational role. Now, he'll remain in the NFC East and join the division-rival Cowboys with an opportunity to replicate similar production.
But beyond what happens on the field on game day, Miller brings championship pedigree and experience to Dallas.
He's been one of the most impactful defensive players in the league throughout his career, winning two Super Bowls and a Super Bowl MVP award. Now he gets the chance to instill some of that same culture into a Cowboys locker room that is still trying to get back to being a legitimate contender.
There's also a homecoming element to this move. Miller grew up in the Dallas area, played at DeSoto High School, and then starred at Texas A&M before becoming the No. 2 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Texas has been a major part of his football journey from the beginning, and now he gets an opportunity to play for the Cowboys late in his career.
It's yet to be seen exactly what Miller's role will look like, but his impact should extend beyond his snap count. The Cowboys are getting a veteran who can still rush the passer, provide leadership, and bring championship experience to a defense that needs improvement.
