Saints Move On From Taysom Hill After Nine Seasons

The New Orleans Saints have clearly entered a new era with quarterback Tyler Shough taking over under center, and some of the key players from the previous era are now well beyond the peak of their careers. Players like Alvin Kamara and Cam Jordan have helped define Saints football for the better part of a decade, but now another franchise icon is officially moving on.

Longtime offensive weapon Taysom Hill will not return for a 10th season in New Orleans, as the Saints officially turn the page on one of the most impactful and dynamic players in franchise history. He's a free agent, but at this stage it's been confirmed that he won't be back.

Quite frankly, there’s just never been another player like Hill in the NFL.

Over the course of his career, he lined up at quarterback, running back, tight end, wide receiver and on special teams. Whether it was short-yardage situations, goal-line packages, gadget plays or trick plays designed to catch defenses off guard, Hill was always someone opposing defensive coordinators had to account for.

He kept defenses on their toes every single week.

Over the course of his career, Hill continuously adapted to whatever role the Saints needed him to play. He molded his game around the team’s needs and became one of the most reliable players on the roster because of it.

There simply aren’t many players in the NFL who can do everything Hill was asked to do.

Having one player capable of contributing at so many different positions made the Saints more versatile offensively and gave the coaching staff endless options when building weekly game plans.

As New Orleans continues moving into its next chapter, replacing that kind of versatility won’t be easy.

Hill’s production alone will be difficult to replicate, but replacing everything else he brought to the locker room and the culture of the organization may be an even bigger challenge.

While his career in New Orleans has officially come to an end, his legacy is already secure.

Taysom Hill wasn’t just one of the most unique players in NFL history. He was one of the greatest Saints of all time, and he’ll be remembered as one of the defining players of one of the most successful eras in franchise history.
