It wasn’t even two weeks ago when the Los Angeles Rams swung a deal to acquire the reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett from the Browns. Now, the star defensive end and the team worked out a new, revised deal. For all the details on the new contract, read below and be informed about how the deal is structured.

The Deal

To Los Angeles Rams: DE Myles Garrett

To Cleveland Browns: DE Jared Verse, 2027 1st round pick, 2028 2nd round pick, 2029 3rd round pick

Garrett set a league-record last season with 23 sacks. He added 60 tackles (43 solo), 33 tackles for loss and quarterback hits. Garrett added three forced fumbles en route to earning his third straight First-Team All-Pro selection. He’ll slot right in at defensive end for the Rams and look to terrorize opposing quarterbacks. Les Snead is attempting to maximize his short term window with Stafford and this was a great move.

Myles Garrett Contract

When Garrett was acquired from Cleveland, he was entering the second year of a four-year, $160 million deal. After coming over, the first thing that the two sides did was work out a revised compensation structure. That bumped his compensation for the 2026 season from $31.5 million to $37 million.

The official terms of the deal that he signed with the Rams came out this week. It’s a five-year, $208.2 million deal with $99 million of the cash guaranteed. His cap number for this season is just $8.44 million but steadily increases over the course of the contract. It climbs to $15.024 million in 2027, $27.577 million in 2028, $39.875 million in 2029 and $48.173 million in 2030. There are also a staggering eight void years for cap purposes that run through 2038.

Easy Out for the Rams?

The Rams structured the deal with Garrett where they have the ability to get out of the deal after the 2028 season. If the team cuts him prior to June 1, 2029, the Rams would save $32.74 million in cap space. By that point, Garrett would be 33 and potentially in the twilight of his career. Whether the Rams do that likely is dependent on what kind of production they get over the next three seasons. Team success for the Rams also is a factor.

One thing is clear. Garrett has a no-trade clause as part of his deal so he won’t be going anywhere easily. The Rams are a force to be reckoned with this season. Reports of Aaron Donald coming out of retirement continue to swirl. Will this move pay dividends for Los Angeles or will it end up being a big splash that ends up failing to pan out in the end? Time will tell but for now, oddsmakers are bullish on the move. The Rams are the current favorites to win Super Bowl LXI, going off at +550at FanDuel.
