Quenton Nelson Dealt By Colts to Seahawks

The NFL trade deadline is just two weeks away. There are teams who are looking to add in an effort to improve their chances of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. On the flip side, there are those teams whose dreams are shattered already. Those teams may be in the process of flipping veterans, either to save money or acquire draft capital.
We saw one trade last month when J.J. McCarthy was dealt by the Minnesota Vikings to the New York Giants. As it turned out, that deal paid dividends for the Giants sooner than expected. He made his first start Sunday against the Texans. McCarthy led the Giants to a 27-21 road overtime win over the Texans. On Tuesday, we saw the first of what could be several major dominoes to fall. Let’s take a look at what went down.

To Indianapolis: 2027 third-round pick, 2028 fifth-round pick
What the Deal Means for Indianapolis
For Indianapolis, this was the latest domino to fall in what is a lost season for the franchise. General manager Chris Ballard caught the axe earlier this month. Meanwhile, the team continues to struggle as they enter this week 2-5 on the season. Shane Steichen’s seat is getting warmer by the week. There are rumors that teams have inquired about Jonathan Taylor.
In addition, Grover Stewart will draw interest from teams looking to bolster their front fours. At this point, it would surprise no one if Daniel Jones was benched for Anthony Richardson Sr. or Riley Leonard. One thing is for certain: the late season swoon for the franchise last year was not an aberration. Indianapolis dealt DeForest Buckner to San Francisco for a fourth-round pick in 2027 later Tuesday.
Retooling may prove the best option for the Colts. However, they have to try and pick up some premium draft picks. They owe the Jets their first-round selection as part of the Sauce Gardner deal last season.
What the Deal Means for Seattle
Adding Nelson to the offensive line is a major boost for the Seahawks. Seattle had their issues so far this year both in pass protection and run blocking this season. The thought process was that the Seahawks’ continuity would make up for any shortcomings. After all, they brought back all five starters from last season’s Super Bowl winning unit.
However, a closer look shows that things haven’t gone according to Hoyle. Quarterback Sam Darnold has taken 14 sacks already this season in his six games. Drew Lock was dumped twice himself in his time on the field. Meanwhile, the run game averages only 3.9 yards per carry. The Seahawks have just three rushes of at least 20 yards this season on 206 attempts. One of those came from receiver Rashid Shaheed.
Adding Nelson gives the Seahawks an eight-time Pro Bowler to plug into the left guard spot. Former first-round pick Grey Zabel moves to right guard. That also moves Anthony Bradford into a sixth offensive lineman role. With Zach Charbonnet and Jadarian Price coming back in the near future, the Seahawks run game should improve.
This was the first big trade that went down. What else may happen over the next two weeks? We’ll have to wait and find out.
