The Houston Texans make the trip to the City of Angels to face the Los Angeles Chargers in an AFC West showdown Sunday afternoon. We share our Texans vs. Chargers prediction, break down the odds, and offer our picks for the game.

Houston comes in off a bye last week. The Texans fell 27-21 at home to the New York Giants in their previous game October 25. The Texans lost outright as a 10.5-point favorite in that contest. Los Angeles comes in off a 24-9 road loss to the Los Angeles Rams in their previous game last Sunday. The Chargers failed to cover the line as a 6.5-point underdog in that contest. Los Angeles owns a 6-4 advantage in the all-time regular season series between the teams. However, the Texans picked up a 20-16 road win in the most recent matchup December 27, 2025.

Houston Texans vs. Los Angeles Chargers Odds

Houston comes in off a bye week, which helped get them healthier for this contest. The problem is that they enter the game 2-5 on the year and they have work to do in order to make a playoff push. They stand 11th in the AFC standings, 2.5 games behind the Patriots for the final wild card spot.

Los Angeles comes into this game with seven straight losses to open the year as they fell on the road to the Rams last week. The Chargers are still looking for some explosive plays as they’ve been lacking this season. Los Angeles saw their losing streak extend to nine in the regular season. In addition, that skid reaches 10 games if you count the playoff loss to New England last season.

Let’s take a look at the latest odds for this contest, courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook.

Houston is a solid road favorite for this contest. That isn’t overly surprising given the fact that the Texans are coming off a bye while the Chargers are winless on the season. Not only is Los Angeles 0-7 on the year, they haven’t even recorded a win against the spread. Meanwhile, Houston owns a solid 70.59% implied probability to win this contest.

Houston started the year with four straight losses as their normally vaunted defense struggled to get stops. The Texans surrendered at least 30 points three times already this season. By way of comparison, that happened just once last season, when the Colts put up 30 in week 18. In addition, the Texans have a better record on the road (2-1) than they do at home (0-4) this season.

On the plus side, Houston got much healthier over the bye. Safety Reed Blankenship (concussion/hand) and running back David Montgomery (groin) are both out for this contest. Those are the only names on the injury report for the Texans. That means another week where Woody Marks gets the lion’s share of the work with Montgomery being out.

Meanwhile, M.J. Stewart steps in to take Blankenship’s spot at strong safety. Fortunately, the Texans did get Jalen Pitre back and they’re almost at full strength coming out of the bye.

Houston enters this game 7th in the league in passing with an average of 253.4 yards per game. The Texans are a dismal 29th in terms of rushing offense with 84.7 yards per game. Houston is 12th in scoring offense with 23.6 points per game. They stand 18th in scoring defense as they allow 24.3 points per contest.

Los Angeles dropped their ninth straight regular season game, and their 10th straight overall dating back to last season, as they fell to the Rams. The Chargers are pretty much dead in the water at 0-7. They are the lone remaining winless team in the league and they are in the basement of the AFC West. In addition, they have the worst record in the AFC and stand 4.5 games behind the Patriots for the final playoff spot. Reports say that the Chargers aren’t going to deal ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline.

Los Angeles has a lengthy injury report, which has sapped talent on both sides of the ball. The Chargers won’t have Derwin James Jr. as he was placed on injured reserve this week. Cornerback Deane Leonard is out with a concussion and safety Kendall Williamson is out with a calf injury. That means Tony Jefferson gets the start at strong safety. In addition, the Chargers’ offensive line is beat up and they’ve had problems keeping wide receivers and tight ends healthy.

For the year, the Chargers stand just 26th in the league in passing offense with 177.1 yards per contest. Los Angeles is a mediocre 18th in the league in rushing offense with 111.1 yards a game. The Chargers are dead last in the league in scoring offense with 14.1 points per game. They’ve scored more than 17 points just once all season. Meanwhile, Los Angeles stands 20th in scoring defense by allowing 25 points per game.

Texans vs. Chargers Prediction: Under 40.5 (-105)

There just hasn’t been anything impressive about the Chargers offensively this season. Whether it’s injuries, regression or the fact that Mike McDaniels’ scheme doesn’t work, they’ve just been bad. Justin Herbert is on pace for his lowest yardage total and touchdown pass count in his career.

Meanwhile, the Chargers can’t run the ball worth a damn either. They lead the league in giveaways (17) this season and stand -6 in the giveaway/takeaway department. What makes it worse is five of their takeaways came in their loss to Buffalo in week three.

Houston’s defense hasn’t been great but this is a real get right game for them. They are healthy and rested as they are coming off a bye. In addition, they are better on the road than they are at home. Houston has a league-low three giveaways on the season, so they won’t give the Chargers short fields. Two of those came in the opener against Buffalo. That means they have just one turnover in the last six games.

Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter relentlessly pressure Herbert in this one. Houston only needs 21 or so points to win here and that keeps this game under the number.
