Patriots vs. Seahawks Prediction, Odds & Picks for Sept. 9: New England Gets Revenge

The NFL season opens with one of the best possible Week 1 storylines as the New England Patriots travel to Seattle for a rematch of Super Bowl LX. The Seahawks enter the new season as defending champions after beating New England 29-13, but plenty has changed in the months since that game.
The Patriots have continued building around Drake Maye, Seattle is beginning the challenge of defending a title, and oddsmakers still expect another close matchup. With the Seahawks favored by 3.5 points and the total set at 44.5, bettors have several ways to approach a game that should look much different from February's championship meeting.
Patriots vs. Seahawks Odds
- Spread: Seahawks -3.5 / Patriots +3.5
- Moneyline: Seahawks -182 / Patriots +151
- Total: Over/Under 44.5
Seattle beat New England 29-13 in Super Bowl LX, but the Patriots have had an entire offseason to think about that loss and improve the roster around Drake Maye.

Patriots vs. Seahawks Prediction
There's certainly an argument that odds should suggest Seattle should be favored at home after winning the Super Bowl, but I'm going the other direction.
Give me New England to win outright.
Super Bowl hangovers are real, and the circumstances here make this particularly interesting. Seattle doesn't get the luxury of easing into its title defense against a lesser opponent. Instead, the Seahawks immediately get the team they defeated to win the championship.
That provides a tremendous motivational angle for MVP candidate Maye and the Patriots.
New England is also a better offensive team than the one Seattle faced last season. Maye has another year of experience, while the addition of A.J. Brown gives him a legitimate star receiver to work with.
Seattle's defense gave Maye major problems in the Super Bowl, but New England now has months of film on exactly how the Seahawks attacked the Patriots offense. Mike Vrabel and his staff have had an entire offseason to prepare for another shot at the defending champs.
I'm predicting a six-point New England victory, which makes Patriots +3.5 one of my favorite bets of Week 1. The +151 moneyline is also worth consideration for anyone willing to back the upset outright.
Pick: Patriots +3.5
Patriots vs. Seahawks Over/Under Prediction
I'm also expecting points.
The total sits at 44.5, which feels low for two offenses capable of producing explosive plays. Seattle still features one of football's best receivers in Jaxon Smith-Njigba, while New England has given Maye more firepower entering his third NFL season.
If the Patriots are going to pull the upset as I'm predicting, I don't think it comes in a low-scoring defensive battle. New England will need Maye to create explosive plays and force Sam Darnold and the Seahawks offense to respond.
A final score somewhere around Patriots 30, Seahawks 24 fits the way I see this game developing.
That clears the total comfortably while also producing the six-point New England victory I'm calling for.
Pick: Over 44.5

I'm backing a motivated Maye and an improved Patriots offense to get revenge immediately.
