Giants vs. Jets Prediction and Odds for Aug. 28: Back New York Giants in Low-Scoring Finale

The New York Giants and New York Jets meet in an NFL preseason matchup that always carries a little more intrigue and is bigger news than most August games. They share a stadium, they share the same market, and even though the Jets are technically the home team here, there should be plenty of support for both sides in the building.
Both teams are 1-1 through two preseason games, but neither has shown enough offensive consistency to make me expect a shootout. That plays a major role in my Giants vs. Jets prediction, with the Giants getting the edge while the total stays under the number.
Giants-Jets Betting Odds
The Giants vs. Jets odds have the Giants as a slight favorite in what is expected to be a competitive game.
- Spread: Giants -2.5 | Jets +2.5
- Moneyline: Giants -146 | Jets +124
- Total: Over/Under 37.5
A 2.5-point spread feels appropriate given what we have seen from both teams. The Giants have been particularly impressive defensively, while the Jets have produced two very different defensive performances through their first two games.
The Jets opened the preseason by allowing 24 points to Tampa Bay before responding with a 17-0 shutout win over Pittsburgh. Their offense has been much more predictable, scoring 16 points in the opener and 17 last week.
The Giants have been even better at keeping opponents off the scoreboard. They allowed 13 points against Minnesota and just three against Miami, giving up only 16 total points across two preseason games. That defense gives New York a strong chance to cover a spread that only requires a field-goal victory.

Game Prediction
There is always going to be plenty of variance in preseason football, and that is especially true as teams get closer to the regular season and make different decisions with their rotations. Some starters may see more work, others could be held out entirely, and the second half can feature players fighting just to make the final roster.
That makes these games difficult to predict, but the Giants have given me a little more to trust through two weeks.
Their defense has allowed just eight points per game so far, and that gives them a reliable foundation even if the offense does not consistently move the ball. The Giants scored only 10 points in their opener against Minnesota, then followed that with 26 against Miami. That is a big swing, but the defense has remained steady.
The Jets have been inconsistent on the other side as well. A shutout against Pittsburgh was impressive, but allowing 24 points the week before shows how quickly things can change with different preseason lineups.
My Giants vs. Jets prediction has the Giants winning by a field goal. That would be enough to cover the 2.5-point spread on most sports betting apps, and I would rather lay the short number than pay -146 on the moneyline.
Best Bet: Giants -2.5
Giants-Jets Total Prediction
The under is the other side I like here.
Neither offense has consistently shown the ability to pile up points. The Jets have scored 16 and 17 in their two preseason games, while the Giants have had one strong offensive showing and one game where they managed only 10.
The defenses also give us reasons to lean toward a slower game. The Giants have allowed only 16 total points through two weeks, while the Jets just shut out Pittsburgh.
There is always the possibility that one broken play or turnover creates a short field and changes the scoring environment. That happens plenty in preseason games. Still, with both offenses showing some inconsistency and the Giants defense playing well, I am expecting more stalled drives than explosive ones.
The total sitting at 37.5 gives us some room for both teams to score without needing a true defensive battle. The final piece of my Giants vs. Jets prediction is taking the under and expecting something closer to a 20-17 type of game.
Best Bet: Under 37.5
Final Giants-Jets Best Bets
This feels like a game where the Giants have just enough of an edge to win and cover, while neither offense separates enough to create a high-scoring environment.
The Giants defense has been the most consistent unit between these two teams through two preseason games, and that gives them the advantage in a matchup that could get sloppy as rotations change throughout the night.
I'm backing the Giants -2.5 and Under 37.5, with the expectation that New York wins by roughly a field goal in a relatively low-scoring preseason finale.
