The Chiefs shrugged off the disappointment of their 6-11 campaign last season by opening the 2026 campaign by thumping Denver. Kansas City improved to 1-0 on the year and look to win two straight to start the year. Kansas City was even after one quarter but took a 14-7 lead at the half. The Chiefs pushed the margin to 21-7 early in the third quarter and didn’t let Denver closer than 11 from there.

Kenneth Walker III had a big debut with the Chiefs. He ran 23 times for 173 yards and a score. Rookie Emmitt Johnson (eight carries, 24 yards) is the second back in the system.

In the passing game, Travis Kelce (71 yards), Walker III (18 yards, TD) and Xavier Worthy (18 yards) each had three catches to lead the team. Johnson (44 yards) and Rashee Rice (19 yards, TD) both added two catches for the Chiefs in the contest. Harrison Butker connected on all four extra point attempts and hit his lone field goal attempt, which came from 28 yards.

There simply was nothing redeeming about the Indianapolis defense in their opener. The Colts were sliced, diced, pureed and julienned by the Ravens. While Kansas City isn’t as explosive as Baltimore offensively, they have Walker III, who provides a dimension the Chiefs lacked in recent years. The Colts were pedestrian offensively and until we see the defense improve, you can’t like them, especially on the road. In addition, eight of the last 10 meetings between these teams fell short of the mark.
