The NFC East is a Mess

The NFC East is a mess and, so far, the worst division in the NFL. The Cowboys are 2-4 and have the best betting odds to win the division.

Last season, the NFC South was undoubtedly the worst division in football, and the Carolina Panthers won the division despite an 8-9 record. Another undisputed fact: the NFC East is the worst division in football so far this season, and it is pretty obvious the NFC East is a mess. I mean, the Dallas Cowboys are 2-4, have two bad losses in a row, and still have the best odds to win the division.

New York Giants (3-2-1)

The Giants lead the division but are coming off a loss, and they may be starting their third QB in their next game. JJ McCarthy may start over Jameis Winston after nearly bringing the Giants back in their last game, when he passed for 243 yards in the fourth quarter, including a TD and a pick.

The run game is a major issue, and the team has given up at least 27 points in each of their last two games. New York’s three wins have come against teams with a combined record of 5-13.

Dallas Cowboys (2-4)

The Cowboys have lost two in a row, scoring 29 points combined. In the loss two games back, they fell at home to a winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that was starting an undrafted rookie QB and where they were nearly double-digit betting favorites.

Dak Prescott has been decent, but the run game has produced the fewest rushing yards through six games since 1989. America’s Team's defense has also struggled despite all the big additions, ranking 25th in opponents’ ppg.

Philadelphia Eagles (2-4)

After winning their first two games of the season, the Eagles have lost four in a row, averaging 14.5 ppg. Jalen Hurts is out for the season after a blood clot from a leg injury traveled to his lungs, and the NFLPA is calling for an investigation into how Philly managed the injury.

The defense has been decent at best, but the team ranks outside the top 25 in passing and rushing yards per game and is only 28th  in PPG. Saquon Barkley is banged up and has only 182 rushing yards in four games this season and hasn't scored a TD.

Washington Commanders (1-3-1)

Oh, what could have been for my Commanders. For the second straight week, they managed the game poorly, and if they were solid in that area, they likely would have won those games and be tied with the Giants atop the division. Washington fans are already calling for head coach Dan Quinn to be fired, and in the last game they lost their leading receiver, Terry McLaurin, for the season with a knee injury.

Jayden Daniels has shown flashes this season but has to take some blame for poor game management. The defense ranks 29th in opponents’ ppg, and the offense ranks second-to-last in the NFL in third-down conversion percentage.

While the NFC East is a mess, it's been entertaining, and the division is still wide open.
