Key Injuries Ahead of Week 3 in the NFL

With week 3 of the NFL schedule getting underway Thursday night as the Falcons hammered the Packers 35-14 at Lambeau Field, we now turn our eye toward the full Sunday slate. Fourteen games are on the docket, including the Los Angeles Rams and Denver Broncos on Sunday Night Football. Meanwhile, the late window brings a matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and the Dallas Cowboys in Rio.
Of course, with a new week brings injury concerns and we’ll highlight a few of the major ones here. Let’s take a look at some of the injury concerns around the league ahead of Sunday’s action.
Players Ruled OUT
These, clearly, are guys that won’t be suiting up on Sunday for their respective clubs. We can’t make it simpler than that.
Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders
We talked about Daniels yesterday in the rash of quarterback injuries that have ripped through the league. He suffered a dislocated elbow for the second time in as many seasons right before the half in the loss to Dallas.
Reports today said that Daniels is not considering surgery. In addition, the Commanders are reportedly not placing him on injured reserve. That means they hope he’ll be back in four weeks, as he was last season. Marcus Mariota gets the starting gig under center in the interim for Washington, starting this week.
Nick Bosa, San Francisco 49ers
Bosa popped up with an injury Thursday. He injured his calf in practice and projects to miss several weeks. It’s unclear at this point if the 49ers plan to place him on injured reserve or not.
This is the latest of a series of blows to the defensive line depth for San Francisco. Four defensive linemen are on injured reserve. Romello Height has an outside chance to play this week with a broken hand. Mykel Williams is on the physically unable to perform list and can’t play until week five. Meanwhile, the 49ers have just three fully healthy (Keion White, Khalid Kareem and Ogbo Okoronkwo) defensive ends on the active roster right now.

170,000 GC + 7 SC Caleb Douglas, Miami Dolphins
Let’s be honest, most people don’t care about the Dolphins this season. They’re a bad team with a lot of unproven talent. With that said, they still put their jerseys on like everyone else and play the games, even if no one wants to watch.
Douglas was a third-round pick out of Texas Tech. He proved to make an impact in the opener, catching five balls for 94 yards against the Raiders in his debut. Last week against San Francisco, he had two grabs for 19 yards. However, he left early with an ankle injury and did not return. For that matter, he hasn’t practiced this week and was ruled out Friday.
That means Malik Washington (gulp) becomes the #1 target among receivers. Jalen Tolbert likely slots in to replace Douglas.
Mason Taylor, New York Jets
Taylor may not have a massive impact if you were looking from a fantasy perspective. He has just two catches for -2 yards on the year. However, he has seen the most snaps among the five (!) tight ends on the Jets roster. With that said, he won’t suit up for this one with a thumb injury.
That means rookie first-round pick Kenyon Sadiq likely gets more run in this contest. He could provide a good option for Geno Smith as the Jets’ receiving corps is rather thin at this point in time.
