De’Von Achane Torn ACL: Dolphins RB Out For Season

The Miami Dolphins’ difficult season just got much worse. Star running back De’Von Achane suffered a torn ACL in Sunday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and will miss the rest of the 2026 campaign, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday.

Achane exited early in Miami’s 24-10 loss after injuring his left knee, and the immediate tone from the organization was grim. Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley said after the game that the outlook did not sound optimistic. Unfortunately for Miami, the fear became reality. Achane had three carries for 17 yards before leaving the game.

Miami Loses Its Top Playmaker

This is a crushing loss for an 0-3 Dolphins team that was already dealing with a roster overhaul and major offensive questions.

Achane was expected to carry a massive workload in 2026, playing roughly 80% of Miami’s offensive snaps through the first two games. His rare speed and receiving ability made him the offense’s most explosive player—and arguably its best overall player.

Achane's long-term ceiling remains enormous. Miami was relying on him to be the focal point of the offense. That role is now impossible to fill with a single player.

Ollie Gordon Next In Line

Ollie Gordon figures to be the next man up in Miami’s backfield. He was forced into a heavy workload against Kansas City after Achane left, rushing 17 times for 41 yards and a touchdown while adding three catches for 14 yards.

Gordon was Miami’s only other active running back after Jaylen Wright was inactive with a stinger.

Achane’s injury will immediately impact Miami’s offensive outlook. Meanwhile, Gordon should see a major increase in touches if Wright remains unavailable.

The Dolphins will face off with the Vikings next week at 4:05 p.m. EST in Minnesota.
