Cowboys Sign Star DT Quinnen Williams to 3-Year Deal

The Dallas Cowboys recently signed star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to a huge three-year extension. The deal totaled $105.9 million and will make the four-time Pro Bowler the second-highest-paid defensive tackle in the league. He will be making $31.85 million per season, and $101 million of the $105.9 million is guaranteed.

First Full Season in the Big D 

This will be Williams' first full season with America’s team after coming to them last season in a trade with the New York Jets. He was taken third overall in the 2019 draft out of Alabama, and in his time in New York, he made the Pro Bowl three times and was a 2022 first-team All-Pro after registering 12 sacks.

Williams was also a Pro Bowl selection last season and, in his seven games with the Cowboys, had 1.5 sacks, 20 tackles, 33 quarterback pressures, and two tackles for loss. In his career, he has racked up 342 tackles, 41.5 sacks, 60 tackles for loss, and eight forced fumbles. He is now signed through the 2030 season.

Revamped Defense Has a Lot to Prove 

The Cowboys are expected to have seven or eight new starters on the defensive side of the ball. They lost their leading tackler and sack leader from a unit that gave up the most points in the league (30.1 ppg) and the third most yards last season.

Dallas also traded for linebacker Rashan Gary, who had 7.5 sacks for the Green Bay Packers last season, and re-signed safety Jalen Thompson to a three-year, $33 million deal.

Cowboys Shelling Out the Dough 

Williams’ deal adds to other big ones in the off-season and adds to a Cowboys payroll that leads the NFL at over $366 million. The team is littered with stars such as Williams, Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons. However, it remains to be seen if those stars and a hefty payroll can end Dallas’ 31-year Super Bowl drought.

Oddsmakers are not putting much faith in America’s Team in the offseason, as DraftKings Sportsbook currently has them with the 16th-best odds to win the Super Bowl at +2500.
