It's not often that the two most viral clips in an NFL game come from the kicker, especially when they're polar opposites in terms of outcome.

But that's exactly what happened on Saturday for Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, and it's making news.

He started by drilling a 69-yard field goal as time expired in the first half against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which was one yard longer than the NFL record of 68 yards, though it doesn't count because it's just the preseason.

Harrison Butker Dominates the First Half

But that wasn't it for Butker. He also connected from 45 and 58 yards during the second quarter, meaning all nine of the Chiefs' first-half points came from his leg, with the 69-yarder being the icing on the cake.

It was about as dominant a half as a kicker can have. Still, the most fascinating part was how Butker's night completely flipped after halftime.

Butker's Night Completely Flips

Kansas City scored its first touchdown of the preseason on a one-yard run, but Butker missed the ensuing extra point. From there, the Buccaneers eventually rallied to take a 16-15 lead, giving Kansas City another opportunity late in the fourth quarter.

Butker came back onto the field for a much more manageable 43-yard attempt that would've given the Chiefs the lead, but he missed again. So after missing an extra point and a field goal, both from very manageable distances, Tampa Bay ultimately held on for the one-point victory.

And that's preseason football. It's also the volatility of being an NFL kicker.

Butker went from a dominant first half, scoring all of his team's points and unofficially surpassing the NFL record for the longest field goal in a game, to missing an extra point and a manageable field goal in the second half to ultimately be part of the reason Kansas City lost by one. All in the same night.
