Chiefs Escape Colts in Overtime After Wild Treadwell Review

The Kansas City Chiefs looked like they had won Sunday night’s game in overtime — until they did not. However, Patrick Mahomes and Harrison Butker made sure they won it anyway.

Kansas City survived Indianapolis, 33-30, at Arrowhead Stadium after Butker drilled a 40-yard field goal as time expired in overtime. The Chiefs moved to 2-0, while the Colts dropped to 0-2 despite pushing Kansas City to the absolute limit.

Chiefs Top Colts in Overtime

The drama arrived immediately after Butker’s first overtime field goal gave Kansas City a 30-27 lead.

On the ensuing Colts' drive, Daniel Jones launched a deep ball to Laquon Treadwell for 48 yards. Treadwell secured the catch, went to the ground, got back up, and then lost the ball when Kansas City knocked it free and recovered.

For a few seconds, Arrowhead thought it was over.

Replay officials ruled that Treadwell had been down by contact before the fumble, however, keeping the Colts alive at the Chiefs’ 17-yard line. Indianapolis could not finish the drive with a touchdown and instead settled for a tying 38-yard field goal.

That gave Mahomes one more chance, and he treated Arrowhead to typical Mahomes magic.

Mahomes, Walker Deliver Again

Mahomes completed 32 of 47 passes for 382 yards and three touchdowns. He also got plenty of help from Kenneth Walker, who carried 24 times for 117 yards as Kansas City continued to lean on its new backfield centerpiece. Travis Kelce turned back time and added nine catches for 101 yards and a touchdown.

After the Colts tied it, Walker produced a pair of important runs before Mahomes found him on a long completion to push Kansas City into range. Butker did the rest.
