Chase Claypool is back on the NFL radar, and the Green Bay Packers are taking a look.

The wide receiver who broke into the league with the Pittsburgh Steelers was invited to a tryout at Green Bay's rookie minicamp, according to USA Today's Ryan Wood and additional sources. Claypool, 27, hasn't appeared in an NFL game since the 2023 season.

Packers Give Chase Claypool a Look on Friday

The Packers are giving Claypool a chance to revive a career that once showed legitimate promise. Drafted by Pittsburgh in the second round — 49th overall — in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame, Claypool posted back-to-back 800-plus yard seasons in his first two years in the league, topping 100 targets in both campaigns and hauling in 11 total touchdowns. The production suggested a legitimate No. 2 receiver in the making.

It never materialized. Pittsburgh dealt Claypool to the Chicago Bears midseason in 2022, and he never cracked the top of a depth chart again. A brief stint with the Miami Dolphins in 2023 marked his last NFL action. He hasn't played more than 12 games in any season since leaving the Steelers.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur sounded cautiously optimistic about what he saw, per NFL.com.

"He's had great film out there," LaFleur said. "He's been productive, and he looks like he's in great shape...We'll see how it goes."

Green Bay has the offensive infrastructure to unlock a reclamation project if Claypool can stay healthy and motivated. With Jordan Love at quarterback and a receiver room that could always use more depth and athleticism, the fit makes sense on paper. Whether Claypool can turn a minicamp tryout into a roster spot remains to be seen.
