Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is officially the cover athlete for the Deluxe Edition of Madden NFL 27. EA Sports made the announcement on Wednesday when the @EAMaddenNFL account posted on X: "The Iceman arrives. Your #Madden27 Deluxe Edition cover is here. Full reveal Thursday, 6/4 at 8 PM ET."

Caleb Williams: Madden 27 Cover Athlete

The honor comes at an exciting time for Williams and the Bears, who are building something special in Chicago with a young offensive arsenal and fiery head coach and offensive guru Ben Johnson calling the shots. Last season, Williams threw for 3,942 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Of course, with any Madden cover honor comes the inevitable conversation about the infamous "Madden Curse" — the notion that cover athletes tend to suffer injuries or down years during their cover season. Coincidence or not, you can decide. Williams now joins a long list of NFL stars who have graced the cover, including some of the game's all-time greats. Here are the most recent cover athletes:

Williams becomes the 11th quarterback to cover the Madden video game. He joins legends such as Drew Brees, Brett Favre, and Michael Vick.

It'll be a busy summer for two popular EA Sports football video games and those who enjoy playing them. College Football 27 is set to release in early July, while Madden, with Williams on the cover, will be available in August.

The Bears will open the regular season on Sept. 13 on the road against the Carolina Panthers.
